An unusual (and sad) week

27 05 2007

Well, you can probably guess from the sad title that my grandfather passed away on Thursday night. Though we are sad it was really a blessing. Granny and Mum have both coped way better than I expected but like me we all know its for the best. He was 86 and had alzheimers which was quickly progressing. He certainly wasn’t the Poppa I knew and loved all my life in the last couple of years. It was lucky I took the girls in to see on Thurs afternoon and we got to say our goodbye.

So with this happening and Amy still not being well and off school much of last week it’s been a most unusual week. I can’t wait to one day getting back into my normal routine. Most shocking I just realized I have only been the gym once in the last 3 1/2 weeks!!!! This coming week my goal is to go 6 dyas - or least exercise at home if I can’t make it the gym. I’ve been suffering from a VERY sore back at night and I’m pretty sure it’s related to no exercise - that I need to get a new mattress for our bed - will be cheaper if it’s lack of exercise.

Had my book group yesterday and as always it was lovely to catch up with all the girls. Today we’re off to a slow start with both Kevin and I having a bad nights sleep. I think he needs to go into work for a while and we’re also planning to see Pirates of the Carribbean while Mum & Dad are around to babysit (I think the’re planning to head back out on Tues after the funeral on Monday afternoon).

Life

A series of misunfortunate events

Well, continuing on from Amy’s appendix, she has been unwell (and off school) since last Thursday. Then on Saturday my grandfather was rushed (well, Granny and I beat the ambulance) to hospital. He is in a serious condition - his kidney’s have stopped working and he’s not really expected to last much longer than a few weeks. It really will be for the best when he’s out of his suffering (he also sufferes althimers). Anyway, Mum and Dad chose to return home rather than continue on to Alice Springs. So things are pretty up in the air right now.

I’m still not back into routine after our holiday and being unwell last week. Spent nearly 4 at the doctors with Amy this morning and got NOTHING achieved today (I had planned to clean the house). My heel spur is really bad again and I have a blister/cut on the other foot (arghhh). I did get some new crocs ordered today (my current pair have nearly worn through on the sole) and made a specialist apt for my heel spur and other one for my hands and feet (long, ongoing problem - could to carpel tunnel, arthritis and diabeties…..or something else altogether). I’m supposed to go the P&C Meeting tonight but I’m already in my PJs (it’s 6pm) so I think I’d better skip it :-).

Back home again

17 05 2007

Well, I have to admit it’s kind of nice to be home again - it’s certainly nice to see our animals and have space to move. The cruise was great - absolutely loved Mexico and it’s people. Enjoyed Seaworld and Legoland and then Disney. This is where my well-laid plans fell apart. On our second day Amy was vomitting. I took Christy to the parks for the morning and then we decided to get the doctor to do a hotel visit. $300 later he told us he suspected Appendicitis and to take her emergency. Lucky she went to a great childrens hospital - CHOC - and yes, indeed she had her appendix removed. So she wouldn’t miss out on Disneyland (plus unknown risk about blood clots) the girls and I stayed on an additional 5 days. While we did have a good time it wasn’t what I’d expected and we only got the spend a couple days as a family at the parks (with Amy in a wheelchair).

Mother’s Day was a bit unusual. We flew into Sydney that morning and I had to drag a kicking and screaming Christy from just off the plan, all the way through a very busy immigration - what fun!!! She just lost it and refused to walk so I had no choice but to drag her. It was not pretty. And I have never seen the airport so busy and chaotic.
