Sydney’s Organic Expo

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Just a  week or so ago I discovered there was going to be an Organic Expo in Sydney. It’s apparently the 6th year but I’d never heard of it before!! Luckily we had the Saturday free so I booked tickets for us to go, not really sure what to expect.

It was really good and much larger than I thought it would be. There were lots of stands about all things organic. And lots of food samples.  We discovered some delicious brown rice crackers and were impressed with these super sprouts. Kevin decided we should get the WHOLE set :-) .

The girls enjoyed it too and were extra happy when they discovered the animals.

Before leaving we had an organic lunch from the cafe. I had a lovely vegetable pie. Delicious!

We’ll definitely try to get to return next year.

My food blog

Well, I finally have my new food blog – Libby loves soup, salad and chocolate, all prettied up and ready to share with you.

I hope you’ll drop buy and check it out. And of course, if you want to read/see more please feel free to add it to your RSS feed. Also if you any suggestions for improvements or see any glaring errors please let me know. I’m quite excited about it and already it’s helping me to make better food choices :-) .

Crunch Time

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Okay, with less than 9 weeks till our big trip you’d think I’d be eating healthy and improving my fitness. But alas that has NOT been the case. And I’m currently sitting at the height weight I’ve been in a long time and having to wear my elastic waisted pants. It ain’t pretty that’s for sure.

So it’s time to get things moving in the right direction again. But how to do that is the question? I know deep down the only way to ever get full control of my eating is to accept there is no quick fix and that I need to learn to eat like a NORMAL healthy person does.

My plan of attack is to do in fact, that. Follow in the footsteps of the healthy food bloggers that I read on a daily basis, practice Intuitive Eating, not to beat myself up if I CHOOSE to indulge and get back to daily exercise (which has been hit and miss the last couple of month).

To further keep me focused on making good choices I’ve decided to start a daily food blog. I’ll let you know when it’s up and running.

My new toy

As you know I’m in love with green smoothies – and have one most days. I’ve even gotten Kevin onto them. Which means my blender gets quite the workout. I’ve been anxiously awaiting it’s demise so I could get a Vitamix Blender – after hearing all about them all over blogland. Guess what? The other day is started mucking up, so Kevin got online and ordered me a new blender. It came yesterday and I have to say this mornings smoothies was totally without lumps! Yay!

Yes, I know you don’t think it looks very nice but I tell you, they are DELICIOUS!!!

And the result is…

Today I went to see a natruopath. I’ve never done anything like it before but am desperate to find some relief for the swollen hands & feet I’ve been dealing for over 5 years. Each Summer they get worse and worse and I’ve just had enough. Specialists have ruled out carpel tunnel and arthritis and my doc told me I’d just have to live with it!!

The naturopath was a little bit woo woo for my liking but everything he touched on was along the lines I was thinking from my own reading. Basically he said I need to eliminate wheat and dairy from my diet. Plus take the supplements he has given me. I will definitely give this a good go – but I told him I’m not starting the diet until AFTER Easter :-) .

I don’t think wheat will be too much of a problem as I can still have spelt and rye, and dairy as far as milk goes will be okay…but cheese….I LOVE cheese…..hope soy cheese tastes okay and works in our recipes :-) . Ethically and health wise I think giving up dairy will be a good thing and it’s something I have been considering for a time. Let’s just hope this gets some results.

One day at a time

We’ve been having the most gorgeous sunrises this week – I even got to experience a few of them on our walks down by the lake. Unfortunately I’ve been having trouble motivating myself to exercise the last few weeks (beyond walking the dogs) and food has been hit and miss. One day great, the next – not so great. I’m trying really hard to focus on eating and exercising to feel good, rather than to lose weight (but it’s hard when I need to do that as well). It’s been a rough weekend with the girls and a bad day with the pantry today but when I looked as this photo I took of this mornings’ sunrise I was reminded that I get another chance tomorrow to make it a healthy day and I just need to focus on taking things one day at a time.

Getting healthy???

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Firstly just wanted to say a BIG THANKYOU to those of you who commented on my last post – I really do have THE best blog readers. So far it’s unanimous that you like the daily posts so that’s what I’ll go with.

Secondly, todays post is a bit of a downer. I rave on about my ongoing battle with healthy eating.

Thirdly after some thinking (while doing the ironing) I have a new strategy in place.

- I will start counting points but only as a guide as to how much I’m eating

- I will do some kind of exercise EVERDAY – after all, I do LOVE it

- I will be kind to me,  not beat myself up and just take things one day at a time.

Getting Heathy – 30th Sept

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

It’s been awhile since I did a vlog about getting healthy but I seemed to have turned a major corner so thought it time for an update. Plus Valerie Waters of Red Carpet Ready just released her new Action Hero Babe training system and I can’t wait to get started with it.
