Dad’s 70th Birthday Lunch

On Sunday we celebrated my Dad’s 70th Birthday with lunch at the Anchorage Restuarant in the Boat Harbour Hotel.

It’s been a long time family favourite and many, many special occasions have been celebrated here.

Not only is the food always fabulous, but so is the view – esp. on a lovely sunny day.

I had soup…

and cheese souffle (lovely but rather rich)…

There were  speeches. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling that great, so Athena said some words on behalf of our family. This is Dad’s brother, my uncle Brian.

and Dad’s Uncle John…

We took the opportunity to take some family photos.

Granny was especially happy to get a photo with ALL of her current grandchildren (there are another 2 currently in progress :-)).

and Kevin couldn’t resist getting a photo of our two “specials” :-).

On the way home we stopped to admire the full moon rising over the lake…

A trip to the Opera House

IMG_5324.JPG

On Sunday we headed up to Sydney to the Opera House. As you can see we had the most splendid day for it. Luckily the day didn’t require much beyond a bit of walking, and taking it slowly I was able to manage ok.

We had lunch sitting outside with the view of the Harbour Bridge. It was a little chilly in the shade so we were appreciative of the blankets provided. Christy had the best lunch – a kids afternoon tea!! We were all rather jealous.

IMG_5330.JPG

I had the minestrone soup – last time we were here  I had vegetable soup – and it was rather yummy.

IMG_5331.JPG

Then it was time to head inside the Opera House.

IMG_5335.JPG

stopping, of course, to take some photos…

The reason for todays visit…

a presentation by National Georgraphic photographer, David Doubilet.

We took the girls along this time (Athena wasn’t keen to be photographed) and while it was good, he wasn’t as a good a storyteller as the last one we’d been to, Paul Nicklen.

Bastille & Supanova

We had quite a big weekend, starting with the Bastille concert that I took Athena and some friends to.

IMG_4490.JPG

I was REALLY happy to attend as I really love the band.

IMG_4493.JPG

But being a Mum I opted to sit in the stands, rather than go into the mosh pit like the girls did :-).

You can see more of my day and the concert in my day in the life vlog.

Then on Sunday it was back up to Sydney again for the Supanova Pop Culture Expo.

We had to take 2 cars this year as there were the four of us and 2 friends going, 3 friends returning home.

IMG_4546.JPG

Unfortunately there was quite the line to get in but it went pretty fast once the doors opened.

IMG_4549.JPG

Since Athena went off with her friends, this year was all about My Little Pony (for Christy).

IMG_4551.JPG

We went round to check out some of the stores…

IMG_4557.jpg

watched a man get transformed into a zombie…

IMG_4561.JPG

thanks to some makeup…

IMG_4562.JPG

Listened to a Q&A session with John Barrowman. A highlight of the day for sure. He was so funny, and even bought his husband onstage for a bit.

IMG_4571.JPG

and one of his Arrow co-stars.

IMG_9524.jpg

A highlight for Christy was getting some My Little Pony posters signed by one of the directors.

IMG_4579.JPG

And of course, getting some photos with the likes of Merida from Brave..

IMG_4554.jpg

Elsa and Anna from Frozen…

IMG_4598.jpg

and Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony ….

IMG_4590.jpg

Me…I opted for the Tardis…

IMG_4592.jpg

We ended the day watching the cosplay competition. Christy had managed to get us front row seats as she went to help some of the staff remove tape off the floor while we waited.

Such a good day. Next year we hope to attend both days (we would have this year if it wasn’t for the concert).

Once again you can see more of the day in my video.
