Saturday in the kitchen

I woke around 6.30am and thought about doing a workout. I debated with myself and was inspired by Lisa at Bike Bake Blog who not only exercises on cold Winter mornings – but leaves the house to do so. Finally I got into my exercise clothes and did my red carpet ready workout. Since I really didn’t want to do it I just did one of the short SAS-E workouts. Loved it and as always felt great afterwards.

Of course, then it was time for a green smoothie. One day I’ll have to make him one of his own.

Around 8.30am I had some cruskits with spreadable cheese.

I spent the morning in the kitchen – cleaning out the fridge/freezer and pantry and doing fun jobs like window sills and skirting boards. I did have a break around 11am for a babybell cheese and banana.

While I was in the kitchen I made some lemon cookies (as we have loads of lemons on our tree). Amy snapped this photo just after I’d wrapped the dough to place in the fridge.

By the time I finished the kitchen, vaccumed downstairs and help Kevin remodel the chicken yard it was well after 1pm and time for lunch. Amy and Kevin had jaffles but I opted for a salad – using the last of the rice balls. Love these and will need to make a trip to only organic store in Wollongong to restock after our holiday.

I spent the afternoon finally getting our plans typed up into tripit. I drank way too many cups of tea and around 4pm prepared a cheese platter to share with Kevin. I forgot to take a photo but it looked pretty much like the one I had yesterday but with a few other types of cheese. My legs were starting to feel a bit sore so I know I’ll be feeling it in the morning.

Dinner was homemade pizza on pita bread I found when cleaning out the freezer. Kevin didn’t want pizza so he had spaghetti on toast. My pizza had BBQ sauce, corn, tomato, pineapple and cheese.

Tonight we watched Elizabeth – the virgin Queen. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many dead bodies, war and blood as I’ve seen in the last few weeks while we’ve watched all these historical shows and documentaries in preparation for our trip.

Later Kevin announced he felt like some chocolate so Amy divided up the block of Cadbury’s (fair trade) that was in the fridge. Loved how she served it in our little dishes. I definitely do {heart} chocolate.

Friday dinner failure

ANOTHER slow start to the day – I just can’t get my butt moving in the morning these days. Started the day with a cup of tea and one and half oatmeal cookies.

IMG_0573

Later breakfast was 4 cruskits with spreadable cheese before heading out the door for a before school meeting with Amy’s teacher. The meeting went well and Amy’s teacher is trying to find ways to challenge her at school and stop her from being bored. After the meeting I listened the kids read in Christy’s class, then went and filled some orders for the uniform shop. Last stop before returning home was returning a book to the library.

I made another cup of tea and grabbed 2 cookies for morning tea. I took this over to Mum’s and Dad’s (next door) to show Dad all the info that had come in about the motorhome we are hiring in the UK.

Todays lunch was a bowl of cheesy potato chowder.

More travel plans this afternoon. I had fun playing with google maps – checking out photos of the places we’ll be staying out. I can’t tell you how excited I got when I saw this… View Larger Map

My afternoon snack with plum spread and camambert on my favourite crackers.

IMG_0577

I was a bit munchy this afternoon so also had a small bag of popcorn.

IMG_0578

And many cups of tea :-).

Tonights dinner was supposed to be vegetable korma. But unfortunately I managed to burn it and turned to mush. We tried it…

IMG_0580

but it didn’t taste real good so I went back to the kitchen to make dinner no.2. Tofu slabs, basmati rice and sweet potato. Much better.

IMG_0582

We ate this while watching Braveheart (as the girls had dinner at Nan’s). Great movie but I bailed again at the end (when he gets tortured) – I only ever watched that part once at the movies (and was VERY close to leaving the theatre). Needless to say I’m not planning to visit any dungeons in the UK!

The countdown is on

I decided to skip doing my food blog until after our trip as things seem to be getting busy around here as the countdown continues. Plus food might be a bit boring as we try and use up what’s already in the house. But I’ve changed my mind…for now…

It’s so cold in the mornings now that I keep putting off my workouts. Instead I’ve decided to move them till later in the day. So this morning I got up and started the day reading blogs while enjoying a cup of tea.

Breakfast was spaghetti on toast. Perfect on this cold morning.

IMG_0518

Once the girls headed off to school I got started on todays chores – which included cleaning upstairs with a thorough clean of both bathroom and our bedroom. It took me till nearly 1pm with a break around 10.3oam for a green smoothie.

IMG_0519

Boy was I glad to sit and enjoy my lunch – salad with a lentil pattie and roast garlic dressing.

IMG_0522

Tired as I was I still managed to find some energy to take the dogs on a walk. This afternoon I got a few more jobs done, made some fresh bread for the girls and more of those healthy cookies.

My afternoon snack was some slightly stale protein crisps.

IMG_0467

Dinner tonight was chili con carne (made with TVP) served with some tortilla chips. Topped with a bit of cheese and some low-fat sour cream. Yum!

IMG_0525

Lastly I enjoyed a cup of tea and two of the cookies.

Cookies and beans

Boy was it chilly out this morning – so I was glad today was an indoor workout day. After my workout I made a green smoothie for myself, scrambled eggs & toast for Amy, and toast & fruit for Christy.

IMG_0350

Amy wasn’t well today so stayed home from school. I did a bit of tidying, got Christy off to school, had a shower and sat and relaxed for a bit.

Part two of breakfast was some cruskits with spreadable cheese.

IMG_0351

Then on with the house cleaning. After doing downstairs I stopped for a cup of tea and handful of tiny teddies!!!

IMG_0352

I then cleaned upstairs. Lunch today with stirfried veggies and tofu with red quinoa. I’m not sure if I ate too much or it just didn’t agree with me today but I felt so sick afterwards (and I didn’t eat the whole bowl). It was very strange.

IMG_0356

A few hours later I was feeling better and enjoyed a small orange choc bar with yet another tea.

IMG_0357

Once I was feeling better I made some more oatmeal cookies and got started on tonights dinner – Black Bean Burgers. Both were made in Mum’s food processor – so much easier than the Vita Mix. I did have a blender but gave it away a few months ago as I NEVER used it!!!! Now I need to buy one – oops – but I least I can buy a better model :-).

Mum & Dad got home from a 3 week trip today and bought us these goodies.

IMG_0360

I especially look forward to trying the tea.

IMG_0361

Afternoon tea with a bowl of leek and potato soup.

IMG_0362

And one of the cookies – which was just as delicious as I remembered. You’d never know these have chick peas in them :-).

IMG_0363

Tonights dinner was black bean burgers – which unfortunately got left in the oven too long and therefore were a bit dry, mashed potatoes and corn.

IMG_0364

The burgers were tasty though so I will definitely try them again.

IMG_0365

After dinner we of course had to sample some of the goodies Mum bought back from us. I had two of each. So yummy!
