We had some lovely weather in April, and I was feeling okay for the most part, which meant I managed to get for a few walks most weeks.
One day we arrived at the lake just as a man was letting a whole flock of homing pigeons out of the back his car. It was so cute watching them fly in circles, then eventually head for home.
In April I started a major decluttering of the house using the KonMarie method (from the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo). It’s going to take a long time – I expect up to a year but you’ve got to start somewhere. I am also moving towards a more minamalist home and am finding real joy in places when I have less stuff.
First job was the wardrobe/closet – which was not too bad a job as made major changes last August.
I actually forgot to take a before photo but this is the after. It was quickly apparant I needed to buy some clothes (that fit) for Winter.
And with some new Winter clothes.
After the clothes, came the accessories.
With Athena now studying at home, I moved all my stuff out of the study, so she could have the room.
Looks great now and will be a wonderful place for her to do her school work.
Of course this meant Athena rearranged her bedroom, getting a queen sized mattress for the floor.
And it meant a major reshuffle and reorganisaiton of the “scrapbook room”, now to be known at the “study”. And yep, I forgot to take a before photo (too busy trying to film) but it looked a little something like this. Christy has now moved her desk to the other wall and we’ve set up a sewing desk in the corner. I also got rid of most of my scrapbooking supplies – just keeping a small selection for use in smash books and other crafting.
The ladder that got moved out was repurposed to the girls bathroom to hold all our bath supplies.
The last job for the month was books. I got rid of over half and now have ALL my cookbook together in the kitchen.
It was fun to once again spend a day at the Easter Show with the Powells. Unfortunately Athena wasn’t up to attending. I vlogged the day so be sure to check it out if you want to see more details of the day. First stop of the day was the showbag pavillion. I always sit this one out to conserve my feet (and my energy) and this year, surprisingly, neither Kevin or Christy got a showbag. I was rather proud :-).
The fruit and veg displays were awesome this year.
Of course Kevin couldn’t resist getting a waffle on a stick.
About 11.15 we headed into the main arena to get seats for the midday show.
I had a salad while we waited, but it wasn’t terribly filling. I really should have bought lunch from home.
Then it was time to hunt down some corn on the cob.
I ended up getting to have two as there were a few spares.
Some signs of Autumn.
Time to check out some of the animals.
The four horned sheep.
I kinda ran out of energy and was feeling sick. Having just had veggies for the most part, I wanted something more filling to eat. I’d forgotten how hard it is to find vegetarian food WHEN you want it at the show, but thanks to Leanne (who was very worried about me) we finally found some veggie spring rolls. Not what I’d really been wanting but they sure hit the spot, and with a bit of a rest, I was feeling a lot better.
Kevin and Erica were clowning around as they waited.
Not too long after this we called it quits for the day and said our farewells and headed home. The Powells stayed for a few more hours. Just as we arrived back we could see a low full moon over the lake. So awesome and a great end to a great day.
With bad weather forecast for the Easter long weekend, we decided to switch days around and have our Easter Brunch with the Powells on Saturday, and then go to the Easter Show on Easter Sunday.
This year Athena did most of the cooking, which was very appreciated. And everything was delicious.
The rest of the day was spent hanging out and chatting.
