Nelson Bay – Lunch at The Point

Started the day with another walk – this time around to Little Beach.

Loved this sign – too cute.

IMG_0021.JPG

We had a lazy relaxed morning (after I recovered from my 3 hill walk!!!), then went out for lunch at a restaurant (not cafe) at Athena’s (Amy’s) request.

Went to The Point out at Soldier’s Point

IMG_0049.jpg

Even though Christy was having a Tween moment, we managed to get some nice family photos

And Athena & I got a cute selfie.

Everyone really enjoyed their meal. We shared a sourdough bread with dips for a starter – which was SOOOO good.

IMG_0045.JPG

And I had these delicious risotto balls for my main, plus some hot chips.

IMG_7910.JPG

Christy’s mood changed half way through lunch and it ended up being a lovely outing. Back home we headed down to the pool.

Yet again I had problems with the underwater camera so only have some of the photos I took to share with you.

I had fun using Mum as a prop.

After my swim I read some of my Women’s Fitness magazine while I dried off in the sun.

P1110047.JPG

Athena was kind enough to make us wraps for dinner tonight.

IMG_0057.JPG

There was a board game (Tribe), and lovely sunset.

IMG_7914.jpg

IMG_7915.jpg

Then Pop took the girls to the local carnival, which was literally down the road.  Athena did a wonderful job of vlogging, but didn’t take a single photo. So if you want to see what they got up to you’ll have to watch todays video. The carnival starts at 13.33.

Nelson Bay – Trying Stand up paddleboarding

I was awake 5am this morning when it was still dark. Gradually the world woke up and it proved to be a glorious day.

IMG_9901.JPG

Kevin sent me this photo of Bailey having cuddles on the bed.

IMG_9898.JPG

Eventually I got dressed and headed out on my morning walk.

Morning walk at Nelson Bay

As you can see it was such a lovely walk.

IMG_7901.JPG

I was even able to stop at Bakers Delight on the way back and bring home some fresh bread. I enjoyed a berry smoothie on our verandah.

IMG_9967.JPG

Mid-morning we packed up and headed down to the beach. I took a LOT of photos and video but somehow lost them on my new underwater camera. So odd, as I’d even checked some of them when we were down there.

Of course, all the great shots I had of Christy trying SUP (stand up paddleboarding) for the first time were gone. Guess I should be greatful that I have some to help remember the occasion.

P1100007.JPG

I even had a little go myself, but I only tried to kneeling stage. I’m pretty sure if I’d tried standing I would have fallen straight off.

After our beach excursion, we got changed and head to Nelson Head to have lunch at the Lighthouse Cafe.

IMG_9972.JPG

As you can see there is a gorgeous view from here over Shoal Bay and out through the heads.

IMG_9987.JPG

Now, that’s what I call lunch with view.

IMG_9979.JPG

IMG_9980.JPG

I ordered a Chicken salad with no chicken and it was just delicious. Perfect with a nice cup of peppermint tea.

IMG_9985.JPG

The remainder of the afternoon was spent relaxing on the verandah, and later in the evening Dad cooked a BBQ for our dinner.

Don’t forget you can always check out the video for more details of the day.

Summer Holiday to Nelson Bay

IMG_9845.JPG

On Thursday we finished packing, said goodbye to the pups and drove 4 hours up to Nelson Bay, where we are staying for the next week with Nan & Pop. Kevin unfortunately had to stay behind to look after the pups (& go to work).

IMG_9962.JPG

Christy and I decided to be room mates…

IMG_9867.JPG

which meant Amy got a room to herself….

IMG_9870.jpg

We got unpacked and settled and took in the view.

IMG_7888.JPG

Glorious even on an overcast day.

IMG_9878.JPG

IMG_9879.JPG

Christy, of course, had to go for a swim.

IMG_9877.JPG

Amy was nice enough to make me dinner (Nan & Pop were making their own).

IMG_7892.JPG

Which we ate outside.

IMG_9882.JPG

And were visited by some of the local lorikeets.

IMG_9887.JPG

Then it was time for some cards games to end the evening.

You can see more of our day by watching the video.

Canberra Getaway – Day 3

We took full advantage of the 12pm checkout and didn’t leave until almost that time. We relaxed, lazed about, played on laptops and enjoyed a yummy fruit salad.

IMG_8398.JPG

After checking out we went to the Homemade Markets.

IMG_8408.JPG

There was lots of great stuff but we only bought sea salt!!! If my girls were still young I’m sure I would have bought LOTS. The other stuff I did like was out of the current budget :-). As we were leaving (after about 30mins) Kevin got a cupcake and I got a juice – but it wasn’t very good.

IMG_8412.JPG

We headed back to the Old Bus Depot Markets and Kevin decided he wanted to get another hat. He bought his current one from here over 10 years and it’s just now starting to come apart. He thinks he can fix it, but didn’t want to attempt it without having a back up hat.

IMG_8419.JPG

We then went and bought all our fresh foods, including bagels, which are amazing from here.

IMG_8421.JPG

and these dips we had sampled yesterday. Unfortunately we couldn’t find the ladies selling falafels.

IMG_8424.jpg

We then bought some lunch from the food area but instead of eating indoors, I suggested we go down to the lake and have a “picnic” lunch. Today I had some Spanish food. It was good, but not amazing.

IMG_7600.JPG

But the view certainly made up for everything.

IMG_8430.JPG

And we made some new friends.

IMG_8436.JPG

IMG_8441.JPG

Whom eventually decided to come say hello…

IMG_8446.jpg

and share my lunch (when I was finished eating, of course)….

IMG_8450.JPG

Swans have long necks when the stretch them right out don’t they?

IMG_8457.JPG

Then, reluctantly it was time to head home. We were absolutely spoilt with the weather this weekend. It was just perfect.

IMG_8463.JPG

When I got home I found Amy had tidied up the whole house, which I thought was so sweet.

IMG_8475.JPG

After unpacking, we had our first swim of the season, had some bagel melts made by Amy and settled in to watch Modern Family.
