Weekend in Sydney Part 2

IMG_3665.jpg IMG_3666.jpg

Unfortunately when I woke up this morning I was feeling pretty poorly. Can only think it was from dinner last night. When I’m eating really well it doesn’t seem to take much to trigger an arthritis flair. Luckily I managed to get showered, dressed and feel somewhat better around 10am, and we headed out.

IMG_3667.jpg

It was super cold out but luckily it wasn’t raining. Love walking through the city when it’s quiet and seeing all the lovely old buildings.

IMG_3670.JPG

Our first stop was at Haigh’s where we bought some chocolate gifts and few things for ourselves.

IMG_3674.JPG

The beautiful Strand Arcade….

IMG_3676.jpg

We were excited to check out Westfield Centerpoint which has had a major renovation since we were last here. It’s really gorgeous now (though is mainly full of designer clothing stores) and the whole mall is looking fabulous.

IMG_3683.JPG

Kevin had to visit the Nespresso store and was happy to get a small sample coffee.

IMG_3679.JPG

I love to check out the David Jones Food Hall but I didn’t find anything that wonderful this time – except for our fav. bonesucking sauce – which we figured would be too heavy to carry around.

IMG_3684.JPG

Kevin, however, spotted the chocolate strawberries and HAD to buy one.

IMG_3687.JPG

I’m sure it tasted great but I think $3 for a choc strawberry is a little ridiculous.

IMG_3688.jpg

We then headed over the Queen Victoria Building – which is just gorgeous.

IMG_3690.JPG

I always love to visit Paws a while and picked up a cute mug.

IMG_3693.JPG

We walking past the clock just on 12pm so got to see the little show – which was nothing much to see.

IMG_3695.jpg

You know you’re in a posh shopping center when they have their own pianist.

IMG_3698.JPG

Kevin spotted this sign and decided yum cha would be good for lunch.

IMG_3700.jpg

It actually didn’t work out that well but I did enjoy these dumplings.

IMG_3704.JPG

A short time later we got a boost juice. I was very adventurous and chose a new (to-me) drink. It was delicious.

IMG_3705.JPG

Kevin got to put his feet up for a bit (in these very strange seats) while I went to check out Sussan’s (my favourite clothing store).

IMG_3708.JPG

We then walked back to our hotel.

IMG_3707.JPG

With one final stop….. for cupcakes.

IMG_3709.jpg

I was so happy to see this sign (esp. after this morning).

IMG_3711.jpg

We bought 6 mini cupcakes to share and another 12 mini’s to take home.

IMG_3716.JPG

Back in our room Kevin had a nap and I had a tea in my new mug (can you see why we had to buy it :-)) and caught up a bit with blog reading (I’m so behind due to the Olympics).

IMG_3719.JPG

At 6pm it was time to get dressed and head back into town (in the drizzle) to the State Theatre.

IMG_3723.JPG

But first we had to get some dinner. Mexican tonight.

IMG_3726.JPG

The whole things was great but the tortilla was to-die for.

IMG_3728.JPG

Then back to the theatre. The State Theatre, which opened in 1927, is probably the best in Sydney. It’s so gorgeous. I’d love to do a tour one day.

IMG_3729.JPG IMG_3732.jpg IMG_3735.jpg IMG_3736.jpg IMG_3737.jpg

Finally it was time to see Sir David Attenborough. The “show” was done really well with him being interviewed by Ray Martin, with big video screens behind. We were actually given this tickets (it’s a long story) by one of Kevin’s mates so it was a real treat, esp. being that it’s a once in lifetime opportunity. He’s just amazing for 86! Such an amazing life he’s had.

IMG_3734.JPG

Weekend in Sydney – Day 1

Kevin and I were in desperate need of weekend away without the kids and with tickets to see David Attenborough on Saturday night we thought this would be the perfect opportunity. We left home about 12.30pm on Friday afternoon. Not too far into our trip up the expressway to Sydney we saw smoke.

IMG_3636.JPG

Then closer we spotted flames.

IMG_3637.JPG

It was VERY windy today and the flames were headed right for the road. We called it in and were glad we were through safely. Just read that the road was closed so we were lucky indeed.

IMG_3638.JPG

Lunch was eaten on the way.

IMG_3639.JPG

Our first stop was in Pyrmont where Kevin had to drop off a couple of (work) coffee machines to get repaired. Then it was over to Bondi, via a wet, windy and traffic-filled city.

IMG_3641.JPG

To the Apple Store, where Kevin had to drop off some machines to also be repaired.

IMG_3643.JPG

Finally at 5pm it was time for the fun stuff – the Max Brenner Chocolate Bar. We had a gift certificate to use here but apparently the company Smart Box have just gone out of business so we were not able to use our certificate :-(.

IMG_3647.JPG

However the staff were most apologetic and gave us this to enjoy. So thoughtful. And yummy.

IMG_3649.JPG

Kevin ordered the banana crepes.

IMG_3650.JPG IMG_3651.JPG

Then it was time for a bit of shopping. I bought a few things at Wheel & Barrow . None of what is pictured here but isn’t this a cute display? (I will do a haul video back at home)

IMG_3653.JPG

Of course I had to visit the Crocs store but I didn’t buy anything.

IMG_3654.JPG

I did however make a little purchase at Lush.

IMG_3655.JPG

About 6.30pm we left and headed to our hotel. We booked a secret hotel and got the Amora on Jamison, which we’ve stayed at before and loved.

IMG_3656.JPG

We valeted our car and got checked in before heading to our room.

IMG_3657.JPG IMG_3658.JPG IMG_3659.JPG

It was 7pm now so we headed straight back out for dinner. We asked the tour desk and he recommended a Japanese placeĀ  a few mins walk away. The only tables available were outside but it was too cold to eat out so we opted for takeaway.

IMG_3660.JPG

The staff were kind enough to give us some green tea to warm us up while we waited.

IMG_3662.JPG

We took our dinner back to our room and ate while watching a movie on the ipad.

IMG_3663.JPG

Kevin loved his meal but I didn’t really like mine – which was just a vegetarian udon dish – so I ate the accompany rice and salad. I then had a bath in the lovely tub (using one of my new lush bath bombs) and got ready for bed. I was REALLY tired tonight (probably due to all the missed sleep I’ve had during the week) so only read a few minutes before going to sleep. I think it was just 9pm!!!

Night owls we are not :-).

Recipe : Bliss Balls

IMG_3607.JPG

These really are one of the best things out there. Easy to make, good for you and kids LOVE them (they think they are chocolate balls).

You need just 5 simple ingredients.

IMG_3599.JPG

Make sure you get FRESH dates. I buy them at a fruit shop but I know Coles and Woolies have them too.

IMG_3600.jpg

Don’t forget to pit the dates. ie. remove the seeds. Amy forgot once, the result of which was a very sick food processor.

IMG_3601.jpg

Add remaining ingredients.

IMG_3602.JPG

And whizz. If you don’t have the greatest food processor I’d recommend doing the nuts first, then adding everything else. Alternatively you could buy almond meal (preground almonds) – though it’ll be more expensive.

IMG_3603.jpg

It’s done when the mixture clumps together.

IMG_3604.JPG

Then you just roll into balls. Kids often like to do this part.

IMG_3605.JPG

Then roll in coconut.

IMG_3606.JPG

You can eat them soft if you like but I like them best once they harden up in the fridge.
