Lunch at an Irish pub – Queensland Trip Day 2

IMG_6079.JPG

More rain on and off this morning. But I very much enjoyed my view while I worked on editing the vlog for yesterday.

IMG_6086.JPG

Around 9am I decided to watch some of the cycling, but I was rather disappointed to get the last few minutes of the race instead of the last hour and half. Seems the TV guide was incorrect yet again.

IMG_6089.JPG

Finally Kevin & Christy were awake. Kevin went to buy some coffee. I got ready for the day. Kevin & Christy went to buy some stuff for breakfast and when they got back I made cheese on toast. It was a rather slow and restful morning. We ate outside but it was a little on the cool side (very windy) so we didn’t linger too long.

IMG_6090.JPG

Around 11.30am we were finally ready to head out…to Officeworks. Kevin needed something for our internet connection and Christy wanted some stuff as she’d left her pencil case at home.

IMG_9997.jpg

I thought she was getting a basket and had to laugh when she got the little kids trolley.

IMG_9999.jpg

On the way back into Surfers we detoured out to the Spit to have a little look at the area.

DSC08347.JPG

There were a few people out for Fathers Day, but not too many due to the cool, windy weather.

DSC08349.JPG

We returned “home”, parked our car and headed out on foot.

IMG_0004.jpg

Christy had to stop for a cuddle with her beloved Bakers Delight (which is not currently open).

IMG_0005.jpg

We headed into the main shopping area and quickly found ourselves in a lollie shop.

IMG_0011.jpg

Of course, we had to buy some of our favourite British treats.

IMG_0012.jpg

And Christy made a new friend.

IMG_0015.jpg

She was keen to see the beach where many scenes from H20 Just Add Water (her favourite TV show) had been filmed.

IMG_0018.jpg

Not what you normally expect for Surfers Paradise. Where are those blue skies??

IMG_0019.jpg

IMG_0023.jpg

Christy’s foot was starting to get sore and we were all getting a little hungry. We finally found somewhere with a decent vegetarian choice. Quite fitting too as Kevin had been keen to eat at one of the many Irish Pubs here, and it was Father’s Day.

IMG_0024.jpg

IMG_0025.jpg

IMG_0026.jpg

The food was really good. Just far too much of it. I had a sweet potato & chickpea patty on Turkish Bread.

DSC08355.JPG

Kevin ordered chicken wings – snack size!!!!

IMG_0027.jpg

After lunch Christy and Kevin went to Infinity (Christy really wanted to go today so made it Kevin’s Father’s Day present). I’ve done it once but didn’t like it. Too many dark rooms for me.

IMG_0030.jpg

IMG_0033.jpg

While they were there I went and got our groceries from Coles. They joined me towards the end and together we managed to get all the bags back to our room.

IMG_0034.jpg

By now my feet were incredibly sore so it was good to put them up for a bit, while watching some more rain clouds role in.

IMG_0035.jpg

Christy went to have a swim & spa in the indoor pool. We enjoyed leftovers for dinner, while watching Got to Dance. We then watched a special on 9/11 – even though it is Christy’s actual birth date, this is the first time she saw what actually occurred. We attempted to watch another show after this but first Christy fell asleep, then I fell asleep, so it was bedtime for all.

A Day of Driving – Queensland Trip Day 1

We had planned to get up between 3 and 4 am, with an alarm set for 4am. With myself only having had 4 hour sleep two nights ago (due to taking Athena to a concert) I was still pretty tired and only woke up just before the alarm. I was still feeling rather groggy but managed to get up, showered and dressed. Only Christy was coming with us today. Athena had a school drama performance and didn’t want to miss two full weeks of school. So she will fly up on Wednesday night, in time for Christy’s birthday.

It ended up we left home at 4.45am, stopping first at McDonalds so Kevin could get a coffee (I had bought a tea from home). The weather was okay when we left, but the time the sun had come up and we were driving in Sydney, the rain had started. Funnily enough we had rain on our last drive up to Surfers in 2011. IMG_5982.JPG

IMG_5983.JPG

As you can see Christy was able to get comfy and get some more sleep.

IMG_5981.JPG

Having a mix of rain and sun, also meant got to see a rainbow. It was so vivid- but was behind us so hard to photograph.

IMG_5992.JPG

We stopped for breakfast around 8am.

IMG_5993.JPG

This place had been renovated since I was last here and I was SO impressed with the variety of fresh foods they had on offer.

IMG_5996.JPG

I got a  veggie tortilla stack, which was delicious. I also picked up another tea for the road.

IMG_5999.JPG

IMG_9981.jpg

More driving.

IMG_6001.JPG

And then a lunch stop at the Big Banana.

IMG_6006.JPG

Kevin LOVES bananas so got the banana crepe – but as you can see it came with a ridiculous amount of cream and ice cream, most of which he left. But of course he had to get a frozen chocolate banana on he way out :-).

IMG_9983.jpg

I went with the much healthier salad wrap, and Christy got pancakes.

IMG_6015.JPG

A few more hours up the road there was another toilet stop.

IMG_9988.jpg

And then we finally come to my most favourite part of the drive in far north NSW.

IMG_6023.JPG

Firstly driving past the sugar cane fields.

IMG_9990.jpg

IMG_6025.JPG

There was a traditional stop at the Macademia Castle,

IMG_6030.JPG

where we got the meet and pat a Golden….

IMG_6027.JPG

Then my favourite view of the journey, which I think sadly will be missed when the new bypass road is finished.

IMG_6034.JPG

It’s still stunning with all the clouds.

DSC08334.JPG

Once we get here it feels like the journey is almost at an end.

DSC08336.JPG

DSC08337.JPG

And, about an hour later, it is. I think this is the first time we have ever arrived in the dark.

IMG_6041.JPG

I picked up our keys (we have a private rental) and we headed up to our apartment, once we got ourselves into the correct tower (there are three in the Chevron Renaissance).

IMG_6048.JPG

IMG_6049.JPG

IMG_6050.JPG

IMG_6051.JPG

IMG_6060.JPG

The apartment is lovely and the view simply stunning.

IMG_6053.JPG

The black space you can see is the ocean. You can just make out the waves on the beach.

IMG_6055.JPG

IMG_6061.JPG

IMG_9994.jpg

I unpacked while Kevin sorted out the internet. Turns out I’ll be able to upload videos while we’re away so that’s a big bonus. We then headed downstairs, and are thrilled to discovered that this tower lift goes (almost) straight down to the shopping center below).

IMG_6067.JPG

IMG_6071.jpg

We found a Noodle Box close buy and g0t takeaway to eat back in the room. Christy and I ducked into Coles while Kevin waited, to pick up a  few essentials for the morning – namely tea, milk and biscuits :-).

We are all feeling pretty tired by now (which seems odd when we’ve been sitting down). But it’s been a long day. We enjoy our dinner while watching Air Crash Investigation.

August Highlights

G0042968.JPG

Kevin took the above photos of the seacliff bridge but they are so stunning I wanted to share them with you all. August was such a bad month with my continued recovery from a lung infection, and various other ailments.

IMG_9793.jpg

Athena participated in GISHWES – a worldwide fundraiser – and made all the healthy females of the family get dressed up as men.

IMG_5387.JPG

My Dad celebrated his 70th Birthday with family and friends.

IMG_5506.JPG

Christy was sick again and home from school for a few days.

IMG_5429.JPG

I finally got to do some more organising of my scrapbook area and actually did some crafting.

IMG_9838.jpg

Robin Williams left us.

IMG_9839.jpg

I had THE best muffin I’ve had – unfortunately it wasn’t local – though maybe that’s a good thing :-).

IMG_9847.jpg

Our local woolworths got some great new trolleys.

IMG_9852.jpg

I started to feel a bit better and was able to head out on a few easy, slow walks with the dogs.

IMG_9872.jpg

IMG_9897.JPG

Kevin took Athena & her friend up to Sydney to see some YouTubers. Afterwards they dined at Lord of the Fries – love the name.

IMG_9905.jpg

I received the most gorgeous gift from a friend, most of it handmade.

IMG_5858.jpg

I was motivated by watching some minimalism videos to take on a major declutter of my wardrobe and vanity (video to come).

IMG_5877.JPG

We had some more power problems and had have pizza by candlelight.

IMG_5937.JPG

It was time to buy our season passes to the local water park. Seemed rather odd doing so on such a cold, wet day.

IMG_9917.JPG

And at the very end of the month, just a week before our trip to Queensland, Christy hurt her foot doing hurdles at school. Thankfully, an x-ray showed so fracture or break.

A Day in the Life – 15th August, 2014

IMG_5579.JPG

Up around 5am this morning. Tea as usual and today I had cuddles with Bailey…

IMG_5584.JPG

while watching the Eneco Tour.

IMG_5586.JPG

Then I got a bit sidetracked online looking at Outlander stuff :-).

IMG_5592.JPG

Kevin and the girls had left for school and work. Eventually I decided I was hungry but not sure what I felt like eating, so I had a ciabatta roll with cheese & tomato. And more tea, of course.

IMG_5597.JPG

There was more time watching Youtube.

IMG_5599.JPG

I then had my shower and got organised to take the dogs on a walk. I’m still not up to the full walk, so we drive down to the lake…

IMG_5605.JPG

and enjoy a slow 15min walk…

IMG_5609.JPG

IMG_9856.JPG

So nice to out in the sunshine and fresh air.

IMG_9857.jpg

IMG_5612.JPG

IMG_5615.JPG

Bailey likes to go exploring….

IMG_5620.JPG

whereas Rosie is my  little shadow…

IMG_5625.JPG

Afterwards I stop by the local supermarket to pick up a few supplies.

IMG_5628.JPG

Then it’s back home to edit a vlog.

IMG_9859.jpg

Before making a veggie burger sandwich for my lunch.

IMG_5639.JPG

I then rewatched the first episode of Outlander.

IMG_5644.JPG

Snuggled under a blanket as it had turned cool. Loved it just as much the second time around.

IMG_5647.JPG

IMG_5649.JPG

Afterwards I dug out my scrapbook album to check out my photos of Doune Castle, where some of Outlander is filmed. Only had 2 photos if you can believe that!!! You forget that when you had to pay to get your film printed you were very selective in what you photographed.

IMG_5654.JPG

I picked up the girls from school at 3pm and spent the afternoon watching youtube. When Kevin got home he prepared the pups dinner.

IMG_5667.JPG

And I put together a rather easy one for us.

IMG_5671.JPG

Kevin & shared a quorn fillet and soy sausage.

IMG_5675.JPG

Then it was time to settle down with a very cute puppy and watch some TV.
