Living in a dust bowl

Dust storm

This is what we awoke to this morning. A dust storm had blown in (something I’ve NEVER encountered before) and turned to world orange.

Amy and I still went for our morning walk but it was rather strange today – we could only see a few meters in front of us and EVERYTHING was covered in dust.

Not our normal view of the lake.

I felt sorry for this little guy.

You can hardly see our house.

Upon returning home I realized how much dust had also gotten into the house – it was stinking hot yesterday so almost all the window were open until we got some rain during the night. Some, like the front door, were still open so I had a nice layer of dust throughout the home. I’ve dusted, vacuumed and moped but am thinking I’ll still be finding dust for some time to come. I am absolutely dreading cleaning outdoors!!!!

It sounds like it was worse in Sydney. While it’s cleared a lot it’s supposed to hang around most of the day.

Our new kitchen table

In all the excitement of getting home from holidays and back into routine I forgot to tell you all …….that our new kitchen table FINALLY arrived….yes, the one we ordered last NOVEMBER!!! Kevin was good enough to spend too many hours assembling for me while we were away.

Lucky we love it and it was worth the wait. We’ve been eating here for a lot more meals and the girls have been playing and doing their homework.

New kitchen table

A bit of an improvement over the old table don’t you think? And certainly it will be easier to fit more than four people. I LOVE IT!!!

Early morning

If there is anyone local (Wollongong area) who is interested in the old table & chairs (for free) just let me know at libby@withnall.com. The top is a bit marked but otherwise is in good condition.

Wear your Apron Day

Over the weekend I discovered that today (Monday) is National Wear your Apron Day (in the USA anyway). Still being that I spend most of Monday in my cleaning apron I thought it only fitting that I join in the fun.  Oh dear, it’s a blurry photo but you get the idea. I have about 4 aprons but 2 that I love. The following is my cleaning apron (al la Anthea Turner – The Perfect Housewife).

The other is my cooking apron – which I bought at Disneyworld about 5 years ago. Still love it.

Hopefully next year on Wear your Apron Day I’ll be able to share some aprons that I’ve sewed myself.

To join in the apron fun be sure to visit The Apronista.

Easter Decorations and craft

Easter Decorations 2009

I planned to take you on a tour of our Easter decorations but I’ve run out of time. We don’t have a lot but each year I add a few things to the collection – this year it was the tea towel and the chicken and duck (seen in the middle row) – all bought on holidays in Surfers.

With only just being home from vacation we didn’t get to do much any Easter craft. But the girls got busy dying eggs on Tuesday afternoon. I had to go and buy eggs (as our chickens have stopped laying for some unknown reason). The dye didn’t take very well but they still had fun. And of course, they had to have an egg and spoon race.
