Recipe Folder Revamp

Firstly just wanted to mention the few brave bloggers who decided to undertake my June challenge of blogging every day. Please try and pop by their blogs and give them some love.

Todays post is all about revamping my recipe folders. It’s been a work in progress for some time and I last did a major re-sort over 2 years ago. As you can see things are looking a bit messy. And Amy is always complaining she doesn’t know where to find things.

The first step was buying some new folders and breaking things down. I now have

– one folder for main meals (which are are favourites)

– one for bread, dips, salad and soup

– one for recipes still to try

– one for baking

– and one for my whole foods class recipes.

I put dividers into the folders and sorted the baking folder by muffins, biscuits/cookies, slices, cakes.

Then it was time to make them pretty. I got some co-ordinating papers and cut them down to size.

Don’t they look great? I have done a cover like this once before but don’t be surprised if you see a lot more from now on. It was SO EASY and the plain white binders were about half the price of the pretty coloured ones I nearly bought.

Last step was labelling the folders. I don’t expect to hear any complaints from Amy now.  I’m so happy with how it turned out. Pretty and functional, and best of all, so easy.

I also put together a video of the process if you’re interested.

Autumn Light

At this time of year I love watching the light change around the house. In the Summer the windows that cop the direct sun have the blinds down, to keep out the heat. But as the sun lowers and gets less intense they are left up and I love seeing the play of light around our home.

These photos don’t do justice to the orange glow that came through the windows.

Around the house

Today I’m sharing the organising projects that are awaiting my attention. Even though I’m able to get more done these days, I seem to spending the time exercising and playing in the kitchen, which means I’m still not getting to my to-do list. My goal is to get at least one thing tackled each week. Some are quite small jobs, some not-so-much.

In no particular order….

The pantry…again…. I’m in process of changing over to glass jars and am not quite sure how to organise everything now…

My desk drawers…the bottom one is packed full….

IMG_2140.JPG

My scrapbook desk…these photos have been sitting here for at least 2 months…. the whole room needs doing but this will be a start….

IMG_2147.JPG

The bathroom cupboard…. things need a big reoganisation once I get under the stairs done….

IMG_2155.JPG

My wardrobe….again….

IMG_2150.JPG

Laundry shelves…. a nice quick one….

IMG_2154.jpg

This angled cupboard….totally not happy with how it’s working…

IMG_2141.jpg

One of the biggest jobs…my study/everything room….

IMG_2152.JPG

Under the stairs….there’s a lot of STUFF hiding right under as well….

IMG_2149.jpg

Oh, dear, the linen cupboard….

IMG_2151.jpg

Shelves in family room….thankfully another little project…

IMG_2146.JPG

The craft cupboard….. a lot could really go now as the girls don’t do much crafting….

IMG_2148.jpg

The loungeroom cupboard…. esp. the overflowing baskets….

Dear me, I’m going to busy for some time aren’t I? Guess this is what happens when you’re basically out of action (except for daily necessities) for over 6 months!

Amy’s “Teen” Bedroom

Amy turns 13 in just under a month and we figured it was time to update her little girl room. It became a great project for Kevin and Amy to work on together, with decorating input from me.

Step 1 – Get new furniture from IKEA….

IMG_1448.jpg IMG_1446.JPG

Step 2 – somehow fit it all into a prius….

IMG_1447.JPG

Luckily we didn’t have Christy with us :-)….

IMG_1452.jpg

Step 3… choose a paint colour….

IMG_1464.JPG

and start painting….

IMG_1338.JPG IMG_1339.jpg

Step 4…. cart furniture upstairs and start assembling….

IMG_1310.jpg

modifying current equipment where appropriate….

Step 5…. put up shelves…..

Step 6….. decorate….

This cute black couch is actually a sofa bed for when friends sleep over.

I LOVE it all, but this desk is just a dream…..

IMG_1362.jpg IMG_1363.JPG IMG_1364.JPG

And her new bedding (which was the first thing we bought) is fabulous. It’s double sided with stripes on the back, which I think will make a nice change for Winter. It’s a silver colour with purple and pink flowers…

So what do you think? Here’s before…

Bedroom After

and after…

I might be a long way from being a teenager but I could be totally happy in this room. It’s also got the best view in the house!
