Daily Routines

I took some time over the weekend to get my sorted and refocussed on what I want to get achieved each day. This includes not just stuff to do around the house, but what fun things I want to do (like scrapbooking) and how I want to feel about myself (eating healthy, getting in my exercise, dressing decent and putting on make-up even if I’m not leaving the house).  In order to make this happen I reworked my daily routine.

I tried to be fairly detailed, esp with the time as this is where I’m really failing at the moment. I made to schedule in computer time – Amy thought it was a lot but if I stick to this I have 1.5 hours which I’m sure is a lot less than what I’ve been spending. I also need to work on not using the computer at night when Kevin is home as he’s been feeling a bit neglected. I’m sure having it all written in black (or in this case blue) and white and stuck on the fridge will help me stick to it. I also planned exercise and meal/snack breaks which hopefully keep me out of the kitchen in between :-). The basic premise is work in the morning, craft time after lunch, a few more chores after girls get home and then time with Kevin after dinner. I will give this new routine a go for a few weeks then make any chances that are required.

Amy also made up routines for herself and Christy which they have to complete in order to get some pocket money each week.

The next thing I needed to do in order to be organised for the week was do a menu plan.

At times I have done this monthly but usually find a weekly basis works best for me. I try to put in one or two new recipes each week and make sure to plan easy dinners on late nights or busy days.

I also took time to go over the detailed zone cleaning list (al la Flylady.net) – the last one I had was written a few years back when the girls had a lot more toys. Wish me luck getting back into my groove :-).

Giving new life to old things

I’ve had these gold photo frames forever but they really don’t do anything for me anymore. Plus I have very little gold stuff in our house. So I decided to paint them blue. I know I’ve got a photo of the shelves with the gold frames somewhere but for the life of me I can not track it down. But I’m sure you can use your imagination. Much better don’t you think? And much more in keeping with my colour scheme.

Finally…

Those of you who are friends with me on Twitter and Facebook might remember me asking about pots a few months ago. I was sick of tefal getting scratched off the bottom of the pans and having to replace them. I was interested in cast iron. But never made any decisions either way as it was all too confusing.

Fast forward to last week. I was shopping in town and decided to go check out the pots. Wow – I had no idea the cast iron would be so heavy. Definitely not suitable when the girls like to cook. So I went and asked for advice and Scanpan were suggested. I recalled that they had been recommended to me and thought, yep, that’s what I’ll get. Oh, that set of 4 looks nice….oh, but not the price…$1100!!!! Hmm…I’ll come back when they’re on sale and will save at least 30%.

Then when I got home I thought I’d check out Peters of Kensington. That same pot set….. $330!!! SOLD to the lady wanting to buy some pots. Holy moly someone is making a LOT of money.

Fast forward to today and I arrived back from the gym to find the delivery man blocking my driveway (talk about good timing as he was about to leave with my box).

Aren’t they lovely?? I’ve been cooking with them today and am just thrilled with them.

Of course, when ordering from Peters you just have to take advantage of their special deals…. some food prep bowls, a big chefs knife and don’t you just love the babushka doll tea towel? I couldn’t resist it 🙂

I also got a new quilt cover for half price (Bailey ripped ours). Why I shop in department stores I don’t know. I certainly won’t be for kitchen supplies any more.
