The beauty of Fraser Island – Queensland Trip Day 13

WARNING : Photo overload ahead.

Today we had a rather early start, having to be outside our apartment at 6.30am. Unfortunately Athena was really sick with a cold so we didn’t think it was wise for her to come on a such long and rough day of driving.

IMG_7032.JPG

First up was the stunning hour long drive along the beach.

DSC08636.JPG

Before we arrived at the coloured sands.

IMG_7036.jpg

Just stunning. Really reminded me of the with the red sand against the blue skies.

IMG_7037.JPG

IMG_7040.JPG

IMG_7046.JPG

The last time I was here I was about 10.

IMG_0325_2.jpg

The beach was beautiful.

IMG_0327_2.jpg

Back on the bus and on the ferry over to Fraser Island. It was strange driving onto the beach to get to the ferry.

IMG_7054.JPG

DSC08664.JPG

We had made to Fraser Island.

IMG_7056.JPG

After some more beach driving it was time to stop for morning tea. Wish I could have a view like this for all my morning teas :-).

IMG_7058.JPG

The water here is stained with tannin from the trees.

IMG_0331_2.jpg

Kevin was impressed he could still get internet on most parts of the island.

DSC08670.JPG

Finally we headed inland and for the more bumpy part of the trip.

DSC08672.JPG

DSC08679.JPG

To get to Lake McKenzie.

IMG_7108.JPG

Unfortunately we didn’t see any dingoes.

IMG_7064.jpg

It was a short walk downhill to the lake.

IMG_7065.JPG

which was just magical.

IMG_7068.JPG

And incredibly clear.

IMG_7069.JPG

and icy cold.

IMG_7075.JPG

But we all went in, eventually getting used to the temperature.

IMG_7085.JPG

Such a special place to swim.

IMG_7082.JPG

IMG_7092.JPG

The sand was amazingly fine.

IMG_7087.JPG

After our swim we got dressed again and went to the lunch area.

IMG_7110.JPG

Which thankfully was in the shade as it was very warm in the sun.

IMG_0332_2.jpg

While we waited we made a new friend.

DSC08686.JPG

and took some selfies :-).

IMG_0333_2.jpg

Lunch was really delicious, even if they had forgotten to cook me a veggie patty.

IMG_7113.JPG

More bumpy roads (not so good after lunch), before we stopped at a rainforest for a walk around.

IMG_7124.JPG

IMG_7119.JPG

DSC08695.JPG

IMG_0337_2.jpg

IMG_7122.JPG

More friends.

DSC08697.JPG

And a strangler fig.

IMG_7123.jpg

A closeup by Kevin.

IMG_0344_2.jpg

And a gorgeous staghorn.

DSC08707.JPG

More driving, then back on the ferry.

DSC08709.JPG

Where we spotted some dolphins.

DSC08711.JPG

Back on the mainland there was one last stop for afternoon tea and lamingtons.

IMG_7129.JPG

Kevin had a rest and Christy had a little play at the playground.

IMG_7134.JPG

Then was rather a lot more driving until we arrived back in Noosaville. Tired but very happy. And thankfully Athena was feeling better after her relax day. Dinner was soft TVP tacos.

Markets, Ada & a Boat – Queensland Trip Day 12

IMG_6862.JPG

My little friend come to collect crumbs again. Breakfast was some scrambled eggs on toast, eaten outside on the verandah.

IMG_6865.JPG

Today Christy stayed behind and the rest of us headed to the Eumundi Markets.

IMG_6872.JPG

Absolutely loved these Frozen dresses. But alas I don’t know any little girls to buy one for.

IMG_6874.JPG

Wished we were having lunch as I’d love to have gotten a burger.

IMG_6879.JPG

IMG_6883.jpg

Loved this tree. Just gorgeous.

IMG_6884.JPG

Apparently it was just 99 days to Christmas so I thought it was time to pick up the pace with the Christmas shopping.

IMG_6886.jpg

Snack time – love these little pancakes.

IMG_6893.JPG

IMG_6895.JPG

Loved the colour of the scarves. Didn’t buy any though as I have quite enough.

IMG_6898.JPG

After a few hours we headed back home. We didn’t buy a lot but did get a few things, like a huge stuffed puppy I fell in love with :-).

IMG_7264.jpg

We headed back to the apartment, collected Christy and walked around the corner to meet with fellow YouTuber, and her hubby Peter.

IMG_0248.JPG

It was so lovely to meet her and we had the best time chatting while enjoying lunch at Sirocco.

IMG_6906.JPG

I was a bit nervous about the gnocchi with blue cheese sauce. But it was SO AMAZING. Best gnocchi I’ve EVER had.

IMG_6907.JPG

Dessert was equally as good.

IMG_6912.JPG

Christy got a little bored with the adult conversion and ended up looking like this.

IMG_6915.JPG

I really appreciated that Ada and Peter travelled up from Brisbane to have lunch with us and all too soon it was time to say goodbye. Ada had been kind enough to bring gifts for us. She got some lovely earrings for the girls and I got some nail polish. So sweet of her.

IMG_7014.JPGIMG_7016.JPG

We walked back to our apartment, got changed and drove, stopping to get some snacks, around to collect our boat for a few hours on the water.

IMG_6937.JPG

This was a great boat. Super comfortable, super quiet slow, and easy to use.

IMG_6941.JPG

IMG_6947.JPG

IMG_6950.JPG

We motored around looking at birds and some of the luxury home on the waterways.

IMG_6953.JPG

IMG_6963.JPG

IMG_6965.JPG

IMG_6970.JPG

Then found a little beach to stop. Christy was the only one to brave the cold water.

IMG_6976.JPG

It was rather murky looking, but apparently just last week it had been crystal clear!

IMG_6982.JPG

As we headed back the sun was starting to go down.

IMG_6987.JPG

These dogs out on a sandbar were having the best time.

IMG_6992.JPG

IMG_6998.JPG

IMG_0247.jpg

After 2 hours we returned our boat, having thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful and relaxing time on the water. We drove back to our apartment, where we actually went for a swim. The water was a little on the chilly side however, so it wasn’t too long before we went in the spa.

IMG_7013.JPG

Tonights dinner was a simple one of soup and bread roll, eaten out on the verandah.

Noosa & The Ginger Factory – Queensland Trip Day 11

DSC08607.JPG

Not quite the view I was waking up to on the Gold Coast, but a visit from a Willy Wagtail helped to make up for the loss.

DSC08610.JPG

Breakfast was a roll with cheese & tomato.

IMG_6694.JPG

When everyone was ready we drove into Noosa, found some parking and went for a walk around.

IMG_6698.JPG

IMG_6701.JPG

Eventually we found the beach and walked along the boardwalk.

IMG_6702.JPG

IMG_6704.jpg

IMG_6706.JPG

Of course, I had keep stopping to take photos and video.

IMG_6707.JPG

IMG_6710.JPG

IMG_6711.JPG

IMG_6713.JPG

IMG_6715.JPG

IMG_6716.JPG

IMG_6719.JPG

After the beach we walked back along Hastings St, the main street, stopping at Boost, where I got a Kinky Kale Juice (which was delicious).

IMG_6724.jpg IMG_6728.jpg

What a family! Both on their phones and Christy was waiting across the road, also on her phone!

IMG_6729.jpg

We then went for a drive around. So gorgeous. When I’d wanted to come to Noosa it was to do some of the amazing walks around here, but alas my lungs won’t permit that.

DSC08616.JPG

We went back to our apartment. Having tried to unsuccesfully book an everglades tour, we decided to head out to the Ginger Factory and then go the beach. Athena has been suffering with a cold, so opted to stay behind and rest.

IMG_6731.JPG

IMG_6733.jpg

Yep, he’s still on a mad selfie kick..

IMG_0308_2.jpg

First up was lunch at the cafe.

IMG_6737.JPG

Christy got a hot chocolate,

IMG_6742.jpg

and I had a delicious sweet potato & lentil soup.

IMG_6746.JPG

Had to laugh at these muffin cases we saw in the shop.

IMG_6748.JPG

After lunch we did the Super Bee experience. I never realized our native bees were so small.

IMG_6754.JPG

We leant all about the hives work. Such amazing animals.

IMG_6762.JPG

Then the Overboard ride – kinda like it’s a small world, but without the Disney magic. It was surprising well done.

IMG_6776.JPG

IMG_6783.JPG

IMG_6800.jpg

Next was the Taste of Ginger Tour

IMG_6804.JPG

IMG_6805.JPG

where we leart all about how they process the ginger.

IMG_6809.JPG

And got to do a taste test. Everything was delicious.

IMG_6814.JPG

We wandered through some shops. Thought we should buy this for Athena 🙂

IMG_6817.JPG

Lastly we rode the Ginger Train.

IMG_6816.JPG

IMG_6821.JPG

As you can see the grounds here were beautiful.

IMG_6826.JPG

IMG_0310_2.jpg

On the train trip all these chickens came running up to the train. We realized why the driver threw food out for them. They were so funny (check out the video below to see them in action).

IMG_6838.JPG

IMG_6840.JPG

We also spotted a family of ducks. So cute.

IMG_6843.JPG

And of course, we had to buy some gingerbread men.

IMG_6773.JPG

We ended up being at the Ginger Factory for over 4 hours, so we missed out on the beach. But we had really enjoyed our time here. We headed back to the apartment and got dinner organised. Like last night we ate on the verandah.

IMG_6848.JPG

IMG_6852.JPG

Kevin thought it was too dark so got his headlamp – as you do…. And yep, he’s wearing his onesie again…

Next stop Noosa – Queensland Trip Day 10

DSC08589.JPG

I am going to miss this SOOOO much.

DSC08591.JPG

After editing yesterdays blog post, I did some more packing, then shared Christy’s unwanted pizza from last night with Athena for breakfast….

IMG_6617.JPG

Along with my last Green Tea Frapaccino…

IMG_6622.jpg

Almost packed. Poor Kevin had a terrible time fitting everything in the car and top box. In fact he had to lie on top of the top box to get it closed :-). We do have quite a few bags of food and drinks which won’t have on the journey home. So hopefully with that and some better packing we’ll fit everything.

IMG_6619.JPG

We left just after 9.30am and headed back to Movieworld as the girls wanted to reride some of the rides.

IMG_6630.JPG

While they went on the Green Lantern, Kevin got himself a superhero selfie :-). Athena has created a selfie monster!!

IMG_0306_2.jpg

We then rode Justice League again.

IMG_6644.JPG

And I had fun taking some photos while the girls rode Arkhym Asylum. Christy wanted to ride Superman but the lines were really long. The park was a lot busier today – no idea why.

IMG_6646.jpg

IMG_6648.JPG

We rode Scooby and had a very odd encounter. As we were entering the guy working at the entrance, Scott, said he recognised us from my videos on youtube. He  said he enjoyed seeing my breakfasts and that he’s going to try a  green tea frapaccino. Such a strange and surreal experience to be recognised, but it was very fun as well. The girls were rather thrilled I think.  Such a nice guy but he couldn’t be on camera due to being in his work uniform.

We rode once (I always forget this is a dark ride) and then Christy rode again, even with a wait of over 30mins. While waiting for her we hung out with this ibis.

IMG_6660.JPG

Shortly after 12pm we left and set off for Noosa. Stopping just past Brisbane for some lunch.

IMG_6668.jpg

IMG_6670.JPG

IMG_6673.JPG

I had a very yummy falafel and hummus wrap.

IMG_6676.JPG

Back on the road I think I fell asleep for about 30mins, waking up in time to enjoy the drive into the Sunshine Coast.

DSC08597.JPG

Finally we arrived at Noosaville and our resort.

DSC08598.JPG

Our apartment is very nice. Only downside is we’re on the 2nd floor with no lifts (and I still have trouble climbing stairs/going uphill) and the promised free wifi is pretty much non-existant. Thankfully Kevin is allowing me to use the more expensive holiday internet to upload videos and blog posts.

The really cool part of the place is that the front door opens onto the verandah. True indoor/outdoor living.

DSC08604.JPG

DSC08601.JPG

DSC08599.JPG

DSC08602.JPG

And the view from the verandah..

IMG_6679.JPG

We got unpacked and settled and Kevin & I went in search of groceries. We found a Woolworth, got supplies and headed home.

IMG_6681.JPG

Christy went down and had a swim, while Kevin & I cooked  tonights dinner steak and veggie hamburgers sandwiches.
