The week that was

It was the week of sunny, cool days….and the week I had Christy home sick for 3 days and a teachers strike on 1 day….

IMG_2402.jpg

It was the week Amy received not one, but two, academic awards at school….not an easy task at a selective high school….

IMG_3304.JPG IMG_2403.jpg

It was the week of ginger gifts from Kevin (from his diving conference last week)….

IMG_3307.JPG

and a delivery of new Crocs – 2 for me, 2 for Amy and 1 for Christy….

IMG_2405.JPG

and the week we received our Disneyworld tickets…

IMG_2360.jpg

It was the week I finally made a bit more progress in the scrapbook room….

IMG_2408.jpg

and cleared my desk enough to do some pages….

IMG_2409.jpg

It was the week of finding my Quorn packet not written in English (which it normally is)…

IMG_3303.JPG

And the week Christy made muffins to take to school (the one day she made it was a reward day)….all by herself….

IMG_3280.jpg

It was the week Amy attended a first aid course taught by Kevin, and the week was saw, and loved, the movie Brave….

IMG_2443.jpg

And it was the week of cute puppies….

A day in my life – 1st July, 2012

Even though it was a Sunday morning I was still up around 5.30am. Today I had not only my laptop but my ipad as well. Our internet connection is rather slow and it’s easier to watch youtube on the ipad (though the quality is poor).

IMG_2416.jpg

Around 7.30am I went to check on Lucky – who we have sleeping in a carrier – and discovered she had already laid her egg for the day – so she was free to go and join her sisters outside. Not sure if I mentioned we’re not allowed to eat her eggs for 4 weeks due to the anti-biotics she had.

IMG_2417.jpg

Eventually Kevin appeared and got a big welcome from Rosie.

IMG_2418.jpg

We decided we’d go and see a movie so I got online and booked our seats. We scored one free and had a gift card so it didn’t end up costing us anything.

IMG_2424.jpg

When I went upstairs to get changed I found Bailey on our bed – naughty boy. He looks really mean in this pic :-).

IMG_2427.jpg

As you can see it was a gorgeous looking day out.

IMG_2428.jpg

I bought the washing down and put on a load before having some fresh juice (I’d made it yesterday and then not felt like it). Looks horrible but tastes great.

IMG_2432.JPG

Then it was time to take the pups on a walk to the lake.

IMG_2433.jpg

It was nice walking there but a bit cold on the way home as I was walking into the wind.

IMG_2434.JPG

I found Christy having breakfast while playing zoo tycoon.

IMG_2437.jpg

I headed upstairs again to shower and get ready to go out.

IMG_2438.jpg

I quickly hung out the washing, grabbed a banana as I was hungry, and we headed off. And for once we left a few minutes early!!!  We got some Subway to have for lunch in the movie.

IMG_2442.jpg

And the chosen movie? Brave – which I was very excited to see. A Disney Scottish historical movie. How perfectly me!

IMG_2443.jpg

And we all loved it. Love a heroine who doesn’t need Prince Charming to save her and put things right. Though I did miss the romance :-). We had planned to have some afternoon tea at a new Max Brenner that has opened at Shellharbour but Christy had a blister on her foot and Kevin was feeling rather unwell so we decided to save it for another day. On the way back we did a quick stop for some groceries.

IMG_2445.jpg

Not sure what was going on with this display but I loved the cow balloons.

IMG_2448.jpg

Since we’d missed afternoon tea we decided to get a block of chocolate to share. We stood looking for plain dairy milk for ages before we finally realized it was in “green” packaging. It just looks so wrong not in purple packaging!

IMG_2449.jpg

Back home Kevin headed up to have a bath since he was feeling so bad, so I decided to do some ironing while watching youtube.

IMG_2450.jpg

Got it nearly all done, then hung out on the couch.

IMG_2451.jpg

Afternoon tea was a chobani yoghurt – still in love with this stuff.

IMG_2452.jpg

Then later Amy made us some popcorn.

IMG_2453.jpg

Kevin surfaced after a snooze feeling a lot better, so we got started on tonights dinner. We had planned to make a fresh pizza base but instead got this one out of the freezer. It was made in Italy so it should be good.

IMG_2454.jpg

We decided to keep the toppings simple with just pizza sauce, organic tomatoes and mozerella cheese.

IMG_2455.jpg

It was fabulous. Will definitely buy more of the bases as they are kept in the freezer.

IMG_2456.jpg

We enjoyed our dinner while watching Museum Secrets. This episode was on the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, which we’ve actually been to.

IMG_2457.jpg

Afterwards we watched a few episodes of Modern Family (we started watching all the series again and are now on series 2).

IMG_2460.jpg

We all headed to bed around 9.30pm (though Amy had gone about an hour beforehand) and I did a bit of reading before going to sleep around 10pm.

Around the house…

I am using plenty of hand cream as my hands are incredibly dry at the moment….

IMG_2368.JPG

we have plenty of fresh fruit….

IMG_2371.jpg

the mandarins are so good at the moment and have pride of place of the kitchen table….

IMG_2373.jpg

We have a VERY full fridge… which always happens when we eat better…..

IMG_2382.jpg

I have made a start on the scrapbook room which has made it messier than before….

IMG_2377.jpg

I am waiting for Kevin to tidy up this corner of the loungeroom….

IMG_2378.JPG

The ornamental pear makes it appear to be Autumn instead of Winter…

IMG_2374.jpg

The leaves are starting to drop….

IMG_2376.jpg

And the lemon tree is loaded with lemons….

IMG_2375.jpg

And I am happy to report that I pretty much met my challenge of blogging every day in June. I only missed 3 days. 2 due to photos not loading and 1 due to a chicken rescue. Where to from now? While some days it really was a struggle to get out a post, most days were pretty easy. So I’m going to continue aiming for a daily post but I’m not going to stress if life (or photos not loading) gets in the way. So please let me know if there is anything in particular you’d like me to blog about. I think I got to most of the June suggestions but if I missed yours please let me know.

Chicken rescue

Just as I was uploading photos to post yesterday something outside the window caught my eye…

IMG_2385.jpg

Yep that’s one of my chickens way up on the fence…and she was stuck. I was worried how I’d get her back if she went over the fence (and having to go get the girls from school) I decided to entice her with some food. She spotted me and the food and tried to come down… but as feared she went to the wrong the side of the fence….to the yard with two little dogs. There was was lots of squarking, and then silence. In a bit of a panic I remembered I could see that yard from our toilet window upstairs. When I looked out she was lying on her side with the little white dog at her. I thought she was dead and was trying to work out what to do when I heard her again. When I looked out the white dog was holding onto her wing.

IMG_2386.jpg

In a panic now I grabbed my bag (was thankful to flylady that I was wearing my shoes) and raced (and I mean raced) down to Mums to see if she could go get the girls while I got the chicken. In the end she drove me around the house. There was no-one home and the side access was blocked. But Mum and I went over their junk and moved their temporary fence to get through to the back yard. The dogs didn’t care  but there were feathers everywhere. Thankfully the chook had managed to fall down between the fence and retaining wall. Which meant she was safe. Unless she went under the fence where there is another small dog. I had to lie down on the ground and grab her tail feathers and haul her up.

IMG_2387.jpg

There was a bit of blood and lots of missing feathers but she seemed surprising okay.  I had to be sure though so after collecting the girls and dropping Christy at singing, Mum dropped me back home where I put her in a carrier and took her the vets.

IMG_2388.jpg

The vet inspected her and found a few puncture wounds but luckily nothing too serious. Two injections – pain relief and an anti-biotic, and a bill for $80, and we were on our way home. We were going to keep her inside overnight but she was really missing her sisters, so we put her straight to bed with them and she seemed much happier. To make sure we can tell her apart easily I painted her nails. We’ll need to seperate her in the morning as we can’t eat her eggs for 4 weeks due to the antibiotics.

IMG_2395.JPG

So it was a rather eventful afternoon, after a quiet day, and the reason I didn’t get to blogging yesterday.
