2009 Recap

2009

2009 – I think we’ll call this year of the holiday! It’s certainly been a  great year resulting in lots of wonderful memories. Here are the highlights:

January – School holidays, a family lunch to celebrate my cousin Greg’s engagement to Lauri,a weekend in Sydney to see Le Grand Cirque & the Star Wars exhibit, first holiday of the year with Nan & Pop to Nelson’s Bay, Kevin bought a small run around boat AND a kayak, the girls went back to school – Amy into year 5 and Christy into year 2.

February – Kevin’s 38th Birthday, school swimming carnival (Christy made it to district), girls start back with dancing, singing, drama & swimming, started taking Rosie & Bailey to dog training on Saturday mornings – they love it, weekend camping in our tent (with the girls & dogs)

March – Amy’s 10th Birthday, Popstar party (where the girls made a CD recording), 10 day holiday on the Gold Coast

April – I started sewing classes (finally), we attended what was possibly the last ever Hawks game, Easter at Burrill Lakes with the Powels (lots of fun with the new boat), school holidays, Amy has her first day at the Academically Gifted Class (this runs every Thurs for the remainder of the year)

May – A fairly quiet month with Kevin & myself enjoying a weekend in Melbourne to see Wicked, Christy started Cheerleading, Bailey turned 1 and Rosie turned 3 with a joint party.

June – I was sick for nearly the whole month with what eventually turned into a sinus infection, luckily I was able to make it to my annual scrapbooking weekend away, I turned 38, Kevin departed for a 2 week diving trip to Vanautu.

July – I recovered just in time for our flights to Broome where we met up with Nan & Pop and traveled down the West Coast for 3 weeks, flying back from Perth. Highlights include riding camels on Cable Beach, seeing humpback whales fairly close, NOT swimming with the whalesharks in Exmouth but instead swimming with Manta Rays, the Pinnacles, Carnavon (I just loved this town), the dolphins at Monkey Mia and Freemantle Prison.

August – Back into our normal routine, visited the Illawarra Fly, took the dogs along to the Walk in the Forest outing run by dog training, visited the HARS (airplane) museum), my cousin Chris’ wedding to Mel which was held at the Queen Victoria Tea Rooms, visited the Hyde Barracks with Nan & Pop.

September – Fathers Day lunch at the Nan Tien Temple, Christy turned 8 and celebrated with a tea party AND a visit to the Olympic Aquatic Center with the Powells, Amy was on the radio as part of “Are you smarter than a 5th Grader?” – she won an i-pod, and we got to experience the infamous dust storm.

October – School holidays, we transformed our pool pavillion into a wonderful place to hang out, spent a very wet, cold week in the caravan at Kiama, girls Dance Concert, Kevin attended a conference in the USA, we had a school friend reunion where I caught up with girls I haven’t seen in over 20 years, and our 4th Annual Halloween Party

November – Kevin went on the Snowy Ride again, one of our guinea pigs died (they are all pretty old), and Kevin & I escaped for a 10 night cruise up the coast of Queensland, while the girls enjoyed 10 fun days with Nan & Pop.

December – A pretty quiet month for us (for a change), the girls had their school Fun Day, Christy got her ears pierced (for the 3rd time), the Christmas season and NYE with friends and family.

We’re looking forward to a wonderful 2010 with Christy’s 1st year and Amy’s last year of Primary School and a 6 week trip to the UK, which includes a 12 night Scandanavian/Russian cruise & 2 weeks touring Scotland with my Dad (Kevin will fly home to go back to work and Mum doesn’t want to fly that far). I just hope that 2010 doesn’t go by as fast as 2009.
