Ain’t she sweet

rosie

Not much to report around here but I just had to share this photo if Rosie. It’s been raining here the last few days, today we had sunshine and I was lucky enough to get out for a walk with Rosie and later to spend some time in the veggie garden. It’s started raining again now(I can hear thunder and Belle has just wondered in for a sook) and we’re supposed to get rain for the next few days. Hmm…I wonder if the weather man realizes that it’s February…. in the Southern Hemisphere that usually means lots of sun….

Just for a laugh – the following photos are from Amy’s photo shoot with the guinea pigs – according to her they are wearing their bling.

Chooks are smart afterall

Okay, before I go any further, I need to clarify for my American friends (Hi, Danielle) that chooks are just chickens. We in Australia like to shorten all words beyond recognition.  ANyway, I thought chooks were supposed to be rather stupid. But my girls have proved that theory wrong. Kevin added a little extention to the chook mansion to give them more room to lay (3 spaces) and so we can reach the eggs easier. The first few days they all laid in the SAME spot again. So I started moving eggs into the other spots to encourage them to lay there. The first day the moved egg went missing and I assumed something ate it (the door had been left open) but when the same thing happened the next day I thought they might be moving the egg. I have now repeated this experiment about 5 times and yes, they are moving the egg back in where they are “supposed” to be laid. How cute!!! How smart!!!

They also come running whenever I open the back door and usually try to get in the house. They even used to come in through the doggy door until we got a new  one they couldn’t open.

Australia Day

We had a VERY quiet Australia Day this year. Usually we do lunch with Mum & Dad but they are off in their caravan to attend a wedding. Instead I went to the gym, did the groceries, tidied my desk,

did some work for my BPS organising class with Wendy and did a layout for the class

took my photo of the day – CHOCOLATE! Actually didn’t think I had much in the house until I went searching…

Kevin added an extension to our chook mansion before going into work. They now have a nesting box and some of the chooks have already used it (so Kevin is feeling pretty pleased with himself), and the girls will now be able to collect the eggs.

Amy decided she wanted to learn to iron so she had her first lessons. She did great, ironing all her and Christy’s clothes.

Our only bit of celebration happened at dinner when we had a BBQ with damper and lamingtons.

So a lazy but rather satisfying day. We ended the day watching The Three Musketeers – but somehow we just ended up watching the second half – suprisingly it still make sense and we didn’t realize until the credits started rolling after just 45mins :-). We then watched the first half of Harry Potter VI and will finish watching tomorrow night.
