An early morning walk

It’s been some time since I went for an early morning walk. First my arthritis was acting up, then it was too cold and dark. But now that we’re in Spring I’m excited to get back to walking as the sun is coming up. Definitely THE best way to start the day.

On this particular morning the sun was already past the horizon when we set off out the gates…

Almost at the lake….

Ducks (and us) enjoying the sunrise…

And my walking buddies who were happy to pose with the sunrise.

I’m going to take my video camera along sometime soon so you can see how truly beautiful this place is.

Fathers Day

On Sunday we celebrated Father’s Day.

Christy got this thermal mug for Kevin.

And from the family he got a huge jar of Walkers shortbread biscuits (we got one for my Dad as well). Not sure why but Bailey wanted to lick the tag.

IMG_4032.JPG

I also got him some egg poaching things, which meant he got to cook his own breakfast!

Kevin and the girls spent the morning playing World of Warcraft together then we met Nan, Pop and Granny for lunch just down the road.

IMG_4051.jpg

It was a gorgeous day out and we able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine.

IMG_4046.JPG

I wasn’t a very good photographer and didn’t get a photo of us all together.

IMG_4037.JPG

Luckily though I got one of Amy and Poppy.

Whenever having lunch here we always have to visit the local birds.

Amy, Kevin and I decided to share 3 meals, starting with bruschetta….

Vegetarian spring rolls…

and pumpkin raviolli….

For desert I had 1/2 of Christy’s scones – which is what she had for lunch!

Back home and more warcraft was enjoyed. It was definitely a lazy, relaxed Father’s Day but I think Kevin (and Poppy) enjoyed themselves.

Weekend lunches

We had such great weather over the weekend and ended up having two wonderful lunches outside. On Saturday we invited Nan & Pop over for a BBQ.

Amy was kind enough to make this delicious salad. I made a yummy mango dressing to go with it – just mango, greek yoghurt and a dash of sesame oil – all blended together.

Amy also made this fruit platter which we enjoyed with some fresh whipped cream.

Today, Sunday, we had to do a few errands, so decided to have lunch at the Nan Tien Temple.

IMG_3909.JPG IMG_3913.jpg

Such a gorgeous day – we were able to eat outside – veggie meat, veggies and rice – so delicious.

IMG_3912.JPG

And the cutest soy chai lattes I have ever seen.

Hope you all managed to enjoy some time in the sun this weekend.

Celebrating the Olympics

It’s become our custom to celebrate the opening of the Olympics with a themed meal from the host country. Being that we love British food we were excited for the opening ceremony. Since it started here at 6am we decided to tape it and watch at the more civilized hour of 10.30am – perfect for a very British morning tea.

IMG_3429.jpg

We had homemade scones with jam & cream, Walkers Shortbread and Milky Stars (we discovered these in the UK & can now buy them here).

IMG_3431.JPG

The girls and I settled down to watch. Unfortunately Kevin had to go out.

IMG_3433.JPG

While we watched we played bingo.

IMG_2670.JPG

I loved the whole ceremony – especially how the arena was transformed from farmland to the Industrial Era. James Bond was cool too but my fav. part was Mr Bean. Did so not expect it. Bailey kept wondering why I was laughing so hard.

IMG_3435.JPG

The girls had friends over in the afternoon so we only got up to after the teams came in. When Kevin got home we had our British dinner – homemade Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatos, beef quorn fillet, corn and gravy.

After dinner we actually watched the first part of the opening ceremony (again) with Kevin. Unfortunately the TV did not record the lighting of the cauldron so we’re going to watch that tonight (I recorded it again).
