The week that was

NOTE: Photo problems AGAIN so these are uploaded from my computer (not flickr) and therefore the quality is NOT as good (for some reason).

I’m going to make this a weekly feature whereby I show photos that didn’t make the blog. These will mostly be everyday photos – along the lines of those I take for a day in my life – which you all seem to enjoy – and some I’ve taken for Project Life.

So this week …. we enjoyed some nice sunsets…

I did lots of washing up when our dishwasher went on strike.

I envied Rosie her daytime naps.

The girls enjoyed a few evening swims. This was around 7.30pm on Friday night.

I found this piece of writing I assume Amy did for school. So cute!

We tried our first cheese-less pizza. It was messy but we really enjoyed it. I think our new BBQ pizza sauce really helped to make it yummy.

I cleaned out the fridge in preparation of our new fridge arriving (we finally decided to go ahead and buy it)

I tried papaya for the first time. I thought it was okay but I didn’t love it.

I watched more sleeping puppies.

And I finally got moved into new school uniform shop – it’s like a 5 star hotel compared to where I was before (see photo below!)

Where the uniform shop has been for the last 6 months while works were being done at the school. I shared with the maintenance man!

Valentine’s Day

**** Here’s hoping the photos are working today!

We are not big on Valentine’s Day and I could not tell you the last time Kevin & I exchanged cards or gifts – probably back when we were teenagers.

Amy and her friend Emerson bought each other flowers – organised through the school.

This year I did get a little something from Amy – which I thought was very sweet.

I put a little card into the girls lunch boxes and organised a special dinner. It was all vegan and VERY yummy.

IMG_8467

We had these vegan enchilidas with a fake cheese sauce. I spiced them up with another sauce (didn’t have enchilada sauce) and they were delicious.

IMG_8465

Desert was vegan shortbread heart, strawberries dipped in dark chocolate (for Kevin) and vegan cupcakes (which we all LOVED).

So my first all vegan dinner event was a great success and the girls loved that I made this special meal for them.

The week that was

It was our first week with both girls back at school but it still wasn’t what I’d call a normal week.

Christy had her swimming carnival on Thursday.

She’s a bit of practice so only ended up going in the 50m freestyle. She gave it her all though, which is all you can ask.

Of course, that meant we left at 11.30am and she and her friend spent the rest of the afternoon playing. Amy had her swimming carnival the next day and on Friday had mufti as a fund-raising for schools in flood affected Queensland.

There has been quite a bit of baking including this batch of banana muffins.

After a busy week it was nice to a have a quiet weekend. Though we were out for half of Saturday to roller skating lessons and the hairdressers. Then Saturday night we swapped our normal season basketball seats for courtside.

IMG_8435

It was fabulous being so close to the action. The second half of the game we sat in the front row so had an uninterupted view – except when the ref. would stand in the way.

IMG_8436

Best of all- the Hawks won- by a landslide. Which broke a 9 game losing streak :-). Check out the score – 105 to 73. And little (as in the shortest player in the NBL) Zac Delany got his first field goal in a game. It was an awesome game. IMG_8441

Today we’ve spent lounging around playing on the computer and getting a few odd things done around the house (but not much to be truthful). The girls had friends over and found a frog drowning in the pool. Luckily they rescued him just in time.

IMG_8444

Not sure how they managed a swim as the weather cooled right down this afternoon. In fact, it was cool enough to think about making soup for dinner. Yum!

Bring back school holidays

_DSC5495

Yes, I know the girls have only been back at school for a week and half but I’m already exhausted. I’m sure our ridiculous temperatures last week didn’t help. We had almost 7 days of near or over 40deg celsius (104F). Thank goodness for air conditioning!!!

The first day saw Amy head off on a year 7 camp for 3 days and Christy starting in year 4. She has a teacher that is new to the school and is very happy with her.

Then Amy got her have her first proper day in High School. She looks so grown up in the shirt and skirt.

We have to leave home at 7.20am to get Amy, and her friend Emerson, to the bus stop on time. The plan is for them to walk home from the bus it’s so far I’ve picked them up. They missed the bus home from school yesterday, which meant a dash into town to pick them up (15min car trip each way).

I’ve had to open the uniform shop twice (for an hour or two) and spent another 45mins filling orders today. Plus I’ve been getting my household routines re-established and have gone back to the gym. On top of all this my heel spur is acting up. Unfortunately my plan to rest it isn’t really working out!!!! So life has been crazy busy, and not at all like I like it to be. Tomorrow in Christy’s swimming carnival, then I’m hoping to have two days at home to just potter around doing jobs and having some free time for crafting :-).
