Wedding Weekend – Part 2

With Chris & Mel

At 5.30pm we set off for the Queen Victoria Building, where the wedding was to be held in the Tea Rooms.

Mel (the bride) was just radiant as she walked down the aisle. I loved her dress and it was just what I’d pictured her wearing.

The wedding service was beautiful. They had written the vows themselves which made it extra special. And I just love this photo of my cousin Chris  – he just looks sooo happy (as you should do on your wedding day).

After the ceremony we chatted with family while enjoying some canape’s. Christy had fun blowing bubbles.

Then it was time to be seated at our table. Unfortunately we weren’t with my parents, or anyone that we knew well, but I do understand how difficult table seating can be for events like this. We still had a great time. The table was beautifully set.

My meals comprised a vegetable salad for entree – it was nice, but cold, and I didn’t eat much as I wanted to leave room for the main course. So glad I did becuase my main course – a corn rissoto – was to die for.

Here’s a photo of us at the table.

And one of my Mum & Dad… we never did get one taken together.

After speeches and cutting of the cake, there was dancing. Later Kevin told me was thinking about asking me to dance (we haven’t danced since our own wedding) but he never did. Not sure if I would have wanted to anyway as I still have issues with people watching me. Maybe next time I’ll give it a go.

ready to cut the cake

The cake is apparently a French wedding cake and it was served as desert – oh, so delicious.

Amy managed to miss a good part of the wedding, having fallen asleep shortly after her dinner was eaten. My girl is definitely no party animal.

Christy started to complain of being tired around 10.30pm so we said our goodbyes and were lucky enough to get a photo with Chris and Mel before we left. I also got one with my beautiful cousin, Tara.

Then it was a short walk back to our apartment where the girls fell into bed. I had a cup of tea and read for a little before it was lights out for me as well. It was a fantastic wedding and certainly a night we will remember for a long time.

Wedding Weekend – Part 1

We had such a great weekend and I have LOTS of photos to share with you – so I’m going to break it up into a couple of posts.

The weekend started with the girls and I going to the hairdressers on Saturday morning for a cut and style. I have only ever had my hair styled for my wedding & when I was a bridesmaid so it was a fun treat, especially now that my hair is long enough to actually do something fun with. I went with the hairdressers suggestion of curls and to the side. Kevin said I looked windswept :-). I think it probably looked nicer yesterday when I just wore it down but it was fun to have different as well. Amy also had her hair curled – but more loosely, and Christy had some braids.

Okay, hair done we finished packing and headed off to Sydney. We stayed in the Meriton Apartments. They were lovely but the lift service was pathetic.

After checking in and having some afternoon tea, Mum & Dad arrived (they are staying in the apartment next to ours). Kevin & I then took off to do a bit of shopping. First stop won’t surprise regular readers – Haigh’s chocolate shop.

We then went to Dymocks where I got a few travel books and then the David Jones Food Court (to buy some nice tea bags) and some very yummy organic biscuits (but at $1.20 a biscuit these won’t become a regular purchase).Yes, I know they’re meant for kids but nearly all the organic biscuits I find are!

Then it was back to the apartment to get ready for my cousin’s wedding. Those of you who follow me on Twitter and Facebook will know I was very excited to buy this dress a few weeks ago. I got loads of compliments on the night – I think everyone was surprised to see me all dressed up :-), not to mention Kevin – who hasn’t worn a suit since our own wedding.

So lucky to live here

Wollongong Lighthouse

Yesterday I went on an excursion with Amy’s academically gifted class. They are studying communications to visited the two lighthouses in Wollongong, then the Illawarra Museum (which we walk past everytime we go to the basketball but had never noticed), and a local radio station. It was a fun morning. Just thought I’d share some photos of this beautiful town in which we live.

Even my car was enjoying the view. On the right hand side in the Entertainment Center where we go to watch the basketball.

The big hotel you can see is the Novotel where we got married (nearly 17 years ago – it was painted pink then).

We stopped for recess at Belmore Basin. Used to come here all the time when the kids were younger.

The museum was originally the post office. Still can’t believe I’ve never been here before.

And finally a photo of the grotty end of Wollongong Mall. Don’t come down to this end very much these day (the main shopping center is at the other end). It actually looks quite nice but most of the shops need refurbishing.

Hope you enjoyed my little tour around Wollongong.  All these photos were taken just a 15 min drive from our home.
