Day 15 – We touched the moon

We were out the door and had the car all packed up just after 7.30am. Our first stop today was the IHOP we spotted last night. Trying to take the girls to as many iconed US places as we can.

IMG_6152.JPG

I had a veggie ommelet and side of hash browns. Both were delicious but the hash browns were amazing.

IMG_6155.JPG

IMG_6156.JPG

We had a lovely waitress here and she even got me a cup of tea to go.

IMG_6157.jpg

Then we left Orlando and headed towards Cape Canaveral.

IMG_3901.jpg

This was definitely a Dad’s day – the Kennedy Space Center.

IMG_6161.JPG

IMG_6162.jpg

I had prebooked a tour that took you inside the VAB (Vehicle Aseembly Buidling) and out to see two of the launch pads. Kevin really enjoyed it (the girls and I not so much).

IMG_6165.JPG

The VAB is 59 stories high and has the largest handpainted US flag in the world – the stripes are as wide as a car diving lane!

IMG_6201.JPG

IMG_6167.jpg

Even though Kevin got a lot more out of this than we did it was still amazing to see the size and scope of all the equipment.

IMG_3907.jpg

IMG_6180.JPG

We enjoyed seeing the Saturn 5 and Christy, in particular, really enjoyed the presentations in this buidling.

IMG_3910.jpg

IMG_6184.JPG

And we got to touch the moon and see a lot of real life space exhbits.

IMG_6190.JPG

We had lunch at the Moon Rock Cafe.

IMG_6192.JPG

I had the garden burger which was very yummy but I really miss salad on my burgers.

IMG_6193.JPG IMG_6194.JPG

I also snapped this picture of my gorgeous girl. Yep, she’s still wearing her tiara :-).

IMG_6198.JPG

From here we caught the bus back to the main area. We were lucky enough to be able to see the space shuttles bottom before the building is all closed up (this exhibit will be opened on the 4th July next year).

IMG_6204.JPG

IMG_6205.jpg IMG_6206.jpg

Here’s some photos I found from our last visit here…Kevin is 50kg lighter and the baby on my chest is as tall as I am!!!

We checked out a few more exhibits, Christy had a play and we left about 3.30pm.

IMG_3911.jpg

IMG_6210.JPG

It was a 35min drive to our motel at Cocoa Beach.

IMG_6213.JPG

It’s a nice enough room, just not quite as spaceous as we’ve become used it.

IMG_6216.JPG

IMG_6217.JPG

But the view helped make up for any shortcomings.

IMG_6219.JPG

Almost as soon as we arrived Christy and I were headed out the beach. Yep, that’s our motel.

IMG_3913.jpg

Christy had a swim, then played in the sand while I soaked up the lovely afternoon sun.

IMG_3916.jpg

Christy then wanted to swim in the pool, which she did, even though she said it was boiling! We’re not used to pools being heated, esp. in warm weather areas.

IMG_3919.jpg

We finally headed back to the room just as the sun was setting.

Both girls had baths, so Kevin and I went out to get some dinner. After a quick stop at Publix, we went to Subway, only to find they didn’t have veggie patties, so after getting dinner for Kevin & Christy, I ran back into Publix to pick up an Amy’s frozen dinner for Amy & myself (and some plastic forks) as we had a microwave in our room. We then settled down for the night, watching some TV or playing on our electronic devices. I’m pretty sure we were all asleep by 9.30pm.

Day 14 – Movies and packing

Woke up to a very foggy morning.

IMG_6140.JPG

I played on the computer and painted my nails (with one of my new polishes).

IMG_6144.JPG

While we waited to see what the weather was going to do I did a bit more packing and we enjoyed some bagels for breakfast. Though still a bit cool we decided at 11am to head to Wet ‘n’ Wild. We’ve never been here before and all got rather excited when we saw all the big slides….until Kevin saw the closed today sign…. what on earth??? Christy was not impressed. We still might be able to come on our very last day as it’s right beside Universal.

IMG_3857.jpg

So we headed back home to change out of our swimmers and have some of those delicious berries.

IMG_6146.JPG

And headed back to Downtown Disney….

IMG_3860.jpg

to go see a movie…..

IMG_3861.jpg

Kevin wanted some Wetzel’s Pretzel and I spotted the shop next door selling peppermint iced chocs. I got one and the girls got ice-creams which we sat outside to enjoy. However I didn’t get very far into my drink (which was nice but I think too sweet) before I started feeling sick.

IMG_3866.jpg

Time for our movie. We all loved this. So clever. Not your traditional Christmas movie (as it’s set at Easter) but it does feature Santa…. and a hot guy (if you ask Amy). Oh, and the popcorn was really yummy (free refills on the large size too).

IMG_3867.jpg IMG_3894.jpg

After the movie we went back to Disneyquest.

IMG_3871.jpg

While Christy went to design her own roller coaster again I had a tea and we shared this very cute (carrot) cupcake. Nice but rather rich as we didn’t finish it.

IMG_3875.jpg

We then played some games – yep, even me :-).

IMG_3880.jpg

And went on a few pretty groovy rides. It was certainly a very fun way to went our time at Disneyworld.

IMG_3885.jpg  IMG_3887.jpg

Just after 5pm we headed home (we had to drag the girls away).

IMG_3895.jpg

We stopped for a last dinner at Taco Bell and Kevin presented me with this sauce.

IMG_3898.jpg

We then returned home for the last time for the fun job of final packing and tidying of the apartments. Luckily we were all done by 7.30pm and able to have a bit of relax time before going to bed. I’m sad this part of the trip is all over but an equally excited for the next part.

Day 13 – A day of recovery

After a rather busy 12 days and only two days left in Orlando we decided on a day of rest and organisation (as I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed with what I wanted/needed to get done). Christy played with her toys while I started packing up our souveniers.

IMG_3840.jpg

We spent some time working on our smashbook ablums.

IMG_3841.jpg

When we got hungry for lunch I headed out around the lake….

IMG_3845.jpg

IMG_3850.jpg

to the poolside cafe to pick up some takeaway lunch.

IMG_3844.jpg

My view while I waited for our lunch to be made.

IMG_3848.JPG

Christy had nachos and I had a very yummy Floridian Salad.

IMG_3851.jpg

In the meantime Kevin and Amy had headed off to The Holyland Experience. Yes, he’s an atheist but it’s somewhere he’s always wanted to visit. They both agreed it was a waste of time and worse than they expected. But at least they can say they have been.

When they arrived back, much earlier than expected, Kevin, Christy and I headed down to the lazy river for a float around.

Christy took this self portrait.

DSCN0273.JPG

After the lazy river, we had a spa, then dried off in the sun before heading back upstairs.

DSCN0278.JPG

Look, our room is all nice and tidy again.

IMG_6116.JPG

We got dressed again and headed out to Super Target, another store I have been wanting to visit.

IMG_6117.JPG

It certanly is super. Probably about 6 times the size of a target back home.

IMG_6119.JPG

We had fun wandering the aisles and got very excited to find Pee Wee Pillow Pets, of course we all got one.

IMG_6125.JPG

There is also a Starbucks so I was able to get a peppermint ice chocolate. Yum, but not as good as the one from Godiva.

IMG_6126.jpg

And check out all these Christmas Cakes. They look great but I’d be too scared of the ingredients to eat one.

IMG_6127.JPG

This fruit, however, I’d love to eat. And since we never get raspberries so cheap at home I bought a punnet, and we got some blackberries as well.

IMG_6130.JPG

Here’s some of our loot.

IMG_6132.JPG

Kevin made a quick stop at Best Buys then we went to dinner at TGI Fridays.

IMG_6134.jpg

It was our first visit here and we really enjoyed it.

IMG_6138.JPG

I had a very delicious blackbean burger with sweet potato fries….

IMG_6136.JPG

and Kevin had some ribs (not too often you see meat on this blog :-)).

IMG_6137.jpg

Back home Christy and I did a bit more of our smashbooks (trying to catch up) and then we watched Glee. But I mucked up the times so we missed the first half :-(. Can’t believe it’s our last day here tomorrow.
