A Day in my Life – December 2010

Golly gosh another year is nearly over. And we’re half-way through December – just crazy!

I woke up bright and early around 5.30am. I was feeling tired and crappy so decided not to take the dogs on a walk this morning. It’s been a REALLY busy week and I’m feeling rather exhausted. Thankfully after today things will quieten right down. Amy was already up when I went downstairs – making shortbread to give to her teachers and the office staff at school.

IMG_7261

I started the day with tea, my laptop and my two sleepy pups. I worked on uploading photos of Amy’s formals and doing the blog post.

IMG_7264

IMG_7263

Once I had woken up properly I got the washing started.

IMG_7262

Then I had my shower and got dressed. It was a bit of mad morning as I wanted to be out the door punctually to get my errands done. I didn’t get to have breakfast, and later discovered I hadn’t even put on make-up !!

Christy had mufty day and went dressed as a pirate for a play she’s doing at school. She headed off on her bike.

Dressed like a pirate

I drove Amy as she was running late and I was going to the school to do any last uniform orders. The units are currently in the maintainence shed and I’m always having to move things to get into my cupboards :-(. Can’t wait to move to move to a new location in the new year.

Temporary uniform shop

By 9.30am I was on my way to the mall. The parking lot was pretty full but I managed to find a spot – I just grabbed the first one I saw to save drive around and around. First stop was the post office to send packages to the giveaway winners. I also had a parcel to pick up.

post away

The next mission was to get a shirt for Kevin. He’d commented to me on Monday night (seeing the boys dressed for the formal) that checked shirts must be in fashion. Boy, was he right :-).

Shirts

Next stop since I’d no breakfast was Gloria Jeans. I decided to be adventurous today and not order my normal Iced Chocolate. Instead I got the Christmas special – which I didn’t know was coffee flavoured. Seeing as I don’t like coffee this was suprisingly good and I drank it all.

Gloria Jeans Christmas special

Then it was grocery shopping.

Local supermarket

Quite a bit today as I was stocking up for the school holidays.

Pre school holidays grocery shop

Time to head home – thank goodness. I unpacked the groceries and hung out the washing.

Big washing day

Then time for some lunch.

Lunch

and to put my feet up for bit while watching Great British Menu.

Resting my weary feet at lunchtime

While watching I checked my e-mail and was pleased to see an e-mail from Berry Sports Camp saying both the girls had a spot for the camp starting on Saturday (they had been on the waiting list). They will be so excited.

Time to head out again – this time to the hairdressers. As I was sitting in the chair I realized I’d missed putting on make-up today :-).

At the hairdressers

Back home again…

Driving home

Since it was nearly time for school to get out I decided to wait for Amy as I knew she was going to have a heavy school bag.

School zone

School pick up

Poor Christy was not impressed that she had to ride home by herself. She was in a bad mood for quite some time.

Riding home from school

I pottered around doing a few jobs – like bringing in the washing and making our bed (except our quilt cover wasn’t quite dry). Before long it was time to get ready for Kevin’s work party. Of course, I had to start by putting my make up on :-).

IMG_7284

That’s better… except I’m sure I don’t have that many wrinkles around my eyes….must have been the glare making me squint….

Ready for the work xmas party

All ready to go…. and Kevin wearing his new checked shirt. Maybe if I shut my eyes the wrinkles won’t show….

Dinner tonight was at Lorenzo’s Diner – one of the most fancy resturants in Wollongong. Not that you’d know it from the outside.

Lorenzo's - 5 star dining in Wollongong

The inside is much better. And because it’s a small restaurant it doesn’t get noisy, thankfully.

Inside Lorenzo's

This was our second year here and the meal was once again amazing. We have shared meals- excpet for me, being vegetarian, selected by the Chef.

My entree was zucchini with cheese stuffed flower – just gorgeous.

Entree (starter)

The main was the most delicious mushroom lasange. Kevin even liked this more than the meat dishes, though he said they were good too.

And the deserts were to die for. Have you ever heard of Chocolate pasta? Talk about yummy!

and my favourite…

Dessert

All the food was presented well and tasted amazing. Everyone had a good time and seemed to enjoy the sharing aspect as you get to taste a lot of dishes. We headed home just after 10pm, feeling very tired. I did manage to read a few pages on the kindle before turning the lights out. Looking forward to a stay-at-home-ME day tomorrow.

A Day in my Life – November

I woke this morning at 6am and ventured downstairs to let the dogs out. It’s promising to be a beautiful Summer’s day.

Good morning

Do you like my new birdie PJs? I just couldn’t resist them when I saw them. After the dogs came back in I had a cup of tea and some shortbread (which I had made for the scrapbook weekend) and caught up on some blogs.

Tea and shortbread

Eventually everyone else woke up and Amy made us some breakfast.

Amy making breakfast

On the menu today – scrambled eggs, tomato and baked beans.

Breakfast

Then since it was such a glorious day and finally we were having some Summer weather, we packed up and headed to the local dog beach.

A trip to the beach

We always have fun here. The dogs love running free, swimming, chasing balls, digging holes and meeting other pups.

Rosie

Beach fun

The girls swim, play on their boggie boards and with the dogs.

let's dig

And Kevin and I throw the ball for the dogs, take photos and eventually sit and try to relax for a bit.

At the beach

Last time we were here I mentioned how this beach is right by the steel works. Today I remembered to take some photos. As you can tell it doesn’t detract people (and dogs) from enjoying the beach. After all when you’re facing the water you don’t even see it. We usually have the beach more-or-less to ourselves but not today.

MM dog beach

We enjoyed our usual beach snack of honey jumbles.

Beach snack

After about an hour and half everyone was worn out and had enough

Two tired dogs

We packed up and left, but not before seeing the hang-gliders hanging out over the cliffs.

Hang-glider

We came home via the dog wash, as we always to do, to get all the sand out of the dogs coats.

A visit to the dog bath

Back home I got some washing hung out and then joined my family in the pool for my first swim of the season.

Swim time

Bailey rested while we swam and played with the camera.

Playing in the pool

Christy took these two photos – I love how they look.

Eventually we got hungry and got out and dried and made a start on lunch. Kevin was kind enough to cook us a BBQ on the new BBQ.

Cooking on our new BBQ

I had wanted to eat outside but it was a little on the windy side so we ate at the kitchen table.

My lunch

After lunch I had a shower, got dressed and put on my make-up as we’ll be going out later to the Basketball.

IMG_6774

I then uploaded photos, worked on some blog posts and then bought in the laundry that was already dry.

IMG_6764

The girls played in the pool with Shantel, and the dogs slept – they were exhausted.

IMG_6763

At 4.30pm it was time to head out. Amy didn’t want to come so she went next door to Nan’s (and ended up sleeping over). Orginially we thought the game started at 5pm so planned to have Cold Rock Ice Cream beforehand and dinner later at the game. We then realized the game didn’t start till 6pm but we went ahead and had desert before dinner :-).

Ah… decisions, decisions. I had chocolate with jaffa, Christy had vanilla with Tim Tams and I can’t remember what Kevin had.

IMG_6777

As you can see eating ice cream requires a lot of concentration.

IMG_6783

Ice creams enjoyed it was time to head to the stadium – known as the sand pit (the old basketball stadium is called the snake pit).

IMG_6784

Christy was quick to have cuddles with Moe – one of the two Hawk mascots (Tomma (hawk) and Moe (hawk) ).

IMG_6785

IMG_6786

Then after a problem with one of the shot clocks it was game time. We’ve got different seats this season and haven’t been as happy (we’re a bit further back and near a stairwell) but tonight it didn’t seem to bother me as much so maybe I’m getting used to our new (and MUCH cheaper) location.

IMG_6790

Towards half time I shared a vegetarian wrap with Kevin for dinner. Christy had some popcorn.

IMG_6792

And the best way to end such a fantastic day…. a win by the Hawks!!!

IMG_6798

Then it was time to head home. Christy fell asleep on the way home (not surprising after such a busy day of swimming), so I put her to bed, got into my PJs and had a cup of tea while Kevin & I watched a documentary on humpback whales (which we hope to see lots of in Alaska next year). At 10pm we headed up to bed and I read for around 20mins before going to sleep.

A Day in my Life – October 2010

Another month, another day in my life. I can never believe how quickly this comes around. Too scary!

I woke this morning just before 6am, got out of bed, got dressed and took the dogs out for their morning walk.

IMG_6393

It was cloudy today so no magical sunrise but it sure was pretty. I love the quiet of the early mornings.

IMG_6398

The dogs are doing so much better on their walks now – no pulling and lunging and barking at other dogs – even when the neighbour dogs walk past.

IMG_6396

Back home it was time for my morning cup of tea (and two oatmeal raisen cookies). Which was enjoyed while checking e-mail and blogs on the laptop.

IMG_6399

I got in the habit during the holidays of starting the morning in the loungeroom (with my laptop) rather than my main computer (in the kitchen). It’s probably not a real good thing becuase I have my feet up and become much more relaxed and happy to linger :-). Christy  woke up (Amy was up just before me) and she had breakfast in front of the TV (because I wasn’t yet ready for my breakfast). I found Bailey having a nap on the blankets.

IMG_6405

IMG_6404

Finally I got moving again around 7.30am, showered and got the girls moving. Christy left for school at 8.20am on her scooter.

IMG_6415

I did a few jobs like feeding the animals, watering the veggie gardern – which is growing nicely (was excited to see little tiny zuchinnis).

IMG_6424

and put on a load of washing,

IMG_6421

and had some breakfast.

IMG_6426

Then it was time to drive Amy to her AG class. Bailey came for the ride – he just loves the car so much.

IMG_6430

After dropping Amy off I went to the car wash – the poor car was in desperate need. I don’t think it’s been washed since before our trip…so some time before June :-(.

IMG_6428

I gave it a vacuum and dust as well and it looks loved again. And the view out the window so much clearer.

IMG_6431

Next was a quick stop at the shops. I wanted to pick up an orange top (I got a white one the other day and it fits and looks good so thought I’d best get the orange one too :-)). I also got myself an iced chocolate since I had to walk right past Gloria Jeans.

IMG_6434

IMG_6435

I was only gone a few minutes and left the window down a bit for Bailey. It’s a lovely day but not too hot so he was okay. Then it was time to head back home. All this done and it was only just past 9.30am!!!

IMG_6436

I hung out my washing, played with the dogs, had a cup of tea and cleaned out the veggie drawers (ready for todays organic delivery).

IMG_6437

Just I was finishing up my beautician rang to tell me she had to cancel todays apt as she was unwell. I wasn’t too worried and it means instead of having to head out at 12.15pm I now have a free afternoon (except for picking Amy up at 2.30pm).

With spare time to spend I decided to get to work on a project I’ve been meaning to start for an online class…

IMG_6442

and I also did a layout for load…

LOAD - Day 13

while the dogs had a snooze…

IMG_6440

Eventually at 1pm I stopped for lunch. Just a quick easy one today – a wholegrain wrap with hummus (that I made yesterday), cheese, fried onion (leftover from last nights dinner) and homegrown sprouts,

IMG_6445

with some grapes on the side.

IMG_6447

Okay, I confess I did not eat at the table….but at my desk while reading through our proposed itinerary for Alaska next year. Then I went outside to do todays photography prompt, then downloaded the photos to see how they turned out. I really am such a novice and need to sit down and do LOTS of reading!! Oh, and todays photo was supposed to be out of focus :-).

_DSC4983

I then went and worked on my project for a while before leaving at 2.15pm to go pick up Amy. Bailey wanted to come with me again. He’s so funny – he makes bolts to the garage door any time he thinks I might be going in the car. After we picked up Amy we made a quick stop to Woolworths because Amy wanted to buy some more bandanas. They are fundraiser for Canteen (Kid’s cancer support) so I don’t mind.

IMG_6450

IMG_6451

Then it was home. Luckily I remembered to put out the bins (Dad’s away) as I spotted our organic delivery hanging out in the garden (did not see it when we drove in). So I bought the boxes in and got them unpacked.

IMG_6452

That veggie drawer sure looks better now, as does the fruit bowl.

IMG_6454

IMG_6453

Spent some more time working on my project. Christy worked on tidying her desk drawers and I ended up tidying their craft cupboard.

IMG_6456

IMG_6458

Finally I called it quits for the day and made another cup of tea, which I enjoyed while reading more about Alaska. Kevin came home just after 6pm and I made us a salad (with Amy’s help) for dinner – since it has been such a hot day.

IMG_6459

After dinner I tided the kitchen, bought in the washing and prepared the dogs dinner – which was demolished in seconds.

IMG_6461

Then it was time to get into my PJs and sit and relax. Kevin & I played on our computers for a bit before watching a few episodes of The Mentalist. Then it was off to bed. I’ve had a such a bad streak of book lately and haven’t finished a few in a room – which is unusual for me. But tonight I stuck gold….and as a result stayed up till past 11.30pm reading :-).

A day in my life – September

Woke up keen to take the dogs on a walk. So keen that even when I saw it was raining I was not discouraged. The dogs and I just put on our coats and headed out. We had the whole path to ourselves with only the local birds enjoying the wet morning. The best part was we actually got a beautiful sunrise – but I didn’t have my camera because of the rain. When we got back I dried everyone off and put our coats outside to dry off. Not sure why it looks so bright in this photo as it was really dark and dreary outside.

IMG_6045

I’ve just started making bread at home again so I got a loaf started.

IMG_6047

Then it was time for a cup of tea to warm up :-).

IMG_6051

After some time on the computer I packed Kevin’s lunch – leftover risotto from last nights dinner.

IMG_6054

I also had to feed the “baby”.

IMG_6057

After my shower I found Amy making our breakfast.

IMG_6060

Cheese omelet today – and boy was it good.

IMG_6061

Once the girls were all ready I took them to school as it was still raining. Then came back home for another cup of tea and a bit of computer time before starting on todays chores.

It was very much a kitchen day. I finished off the loaf of bread and got another loaf started. Then I made some cheesy potato chowder and then some oatmeal raisen cookies.

IMG_6071

Then to tackle todays main task – cleaning out the pantry.

IMG_6067

This took me a couple of hours. I tidy often but this time I took EVERTHING out, one shelf at a time, and gave everything a proper clean.

Around 11am I had another break. This is how the kitchen looked at the time. You can see the soup and cookies on the cooktop and the first loaf of bread in the foreground.

IMG_6078

And here’s the two loaves of bread. Both white (I’ve still yet to master a wholegrain loaf), one with seeds.

IMG_6080

Back to work and finally the pantry was finished. Lunch today was of course soup and bread. Enjoyed while watching the new Enrique video.

IMG_6089

Just I was finishing lunch the Post lady arrived with some parcels. Vegan dog food (which went straight into the garage), our Halloween costumes and some tops I’d ordered from Ezibuy.

IMG_6090

I took some food out to the chickens and collected 4 eggs. They were looking rather bedraggled today.

IMG_6091

I then headed into the scrapbook room for a spot of scrapbooking. Got a couple more pages of our big trip done. I’m now up to England – Warwick Castle to be exact.

IMG_6097

Check out Rosie all curled up on the couch. Definitely a good day for a snooze on the lounge.

IMG_6103

Then I found Bailey snoozing on the other lounge.

IMG_6105

Then it was time to head out to pick up the girls from school. The rain has not stopped all day. Crazy after the beautiful sunny day we had yesterday.

IMG_6118

When I got back from the school run I had some protein chips and cordial.

IMG_6119

The girls next door were over playing with my girls. I got dinner made before sitting down with the laptop. Found out the NAPLAN results came out today so asked Christy did she have hers. Yes, she did. We weren’t really sure how smart she was – not thinking she’d be in Amy’s league but not sure where she was. AVERAGE we now know. Which is fine. Her spelling was terrible (which we knew) but we thought her math would been better as she seems to do very well with it at school. She does tend to rush things though so maybe she didn’t take her time and read the questions properly. Who knows!

Crazily enough I had to put the heater on as it was quite cold. Bailey quickly found his favourite spot.

IMG_6121

Kevin came home about 5.30pm which was early for him. But he’d FINALLY been to the hairdressers after me nagging him for weeks :-). Played on the computer some more until 6pm when I sent the neighbours home and prepped the veggies for dinner. I LOVE depodding peas – so fun!!! It’s funny EVERY time I shell peas I think of my friend Leanne who used to carry unshelled peas with her and eat them straight from the pod for snack.

IMG_6123

Dinner was served – corn quiche and veggies.

IMG_6125

I got the kitchen cleaned up. Then it was time to sit and relax. Later we had some ice-cream while watching Grand Designs.

IMG_6128

I didn’t get to see the end however as the TV mucked up just as I was taking Christy up to bed. So I just decided to go to bed as well since I was still tired from being up at 3.30am the other morning. I read just a few pages of the latest Janet Evanovich book on my kindle before turning off the lights and going to sleep.
