A day in my Life – May 2009

Morning cup of tea

After a rather good nights sleep I awoke around 6am. After cuddles with the dogs and a chat with Kevin I headed downstairs. I let to dogs out to the toilet, opened all the blinds and made a cup of tea. Time to check e-mails, read blog and “chat” with my new “friend” Paige (Hi Paige!!!).

Around 7.30am I decided that I would go shopping for my “ME” day so headed back upstairs to shower and get dressed. I decided to phone my Mum and see if she was up to coming with me (she’s been having knee problems). She thought it would be okay.

Back downstairs I heated up some French toast for Christy and  made myself some breakfast, which I ate while unpacking the dishwasher and organising Christy’s lunch. Everyone organised I made a cup of tea to take in the car. Mum came over and we stopped to take a photo. We didn’t plan it but our outfits almost match :-).

Then we dropped the girls at school and continued on to Miranda for our day of shopping.

We visited our favourite shops and both were successful in finding what we were after. We stopped around 12pm for lunch at Jamacia Blue. I had a delicious summer vegetable tart.

More shopping. Our last stop was Howard Storage, one of my favourite shops, then Gloria Jeans – for an iced chocolate to drink on the way home.

We arrived back at the school with about 5mins to spare. Collected the girls and drove home. Amazingly Kevin was already home – he must have had a bad day at work. After unpacking the car I hung out todays washing.

Washing out to dry

Then back out again to take Christy to dancing.

Home again to water the veggie garden.

Getting hungry so had a bowl of Cauliflower soup, then tried on my new clothes again. Very happy with everything. Just need to buy a top to go with a new skirt.

Around 5pm our organic fruit & veg were delivered. I would have gone out to take a photo of the truck but I was already in my PJ’s (didn’t see the point in getting dressed again after trying on my new outfits). everything unpacked and put away.

Kevin headed back out to pick up Christy, and I sat with a cup of tea typing up the day so far while the dogs had a play.

An easy dinner tonight of falafel wraps (with falafel from the freezer). I forgot to get a photo but it was yummy indeed. I’ve tidied the kitchen, ironing some winter PJs for Christy and am now going to watch some TV with Kevin – possibly a few episodes of It’s Not Easy Being Green.

A Day in the Life – April

Libby

Oops, I forgot all about the 14th – probably because we were making our way back from Burrill Lake so I’m a day late this month.

I woke up around 5.30am, debated going on a walk or do some exercise but the lazy bones won and I just put on my new slippers (the style is called “Libby” so I just had to buy them) and had a cup of tea while reading blogs.

It’s a bit strange having to open all the blinds again – we only ever close them during the cooler months.

Early morning

If I forget to feed Bailey he comes to me, barks, then walks over to the pantry – where he eats his breakfast – and hopes I get the hint.

Amy was watching TV and Christy woke up around 8am. I made French toast for breakfast,

which I enjoyed with a glass of milo (we’ve got a bit of milk to use up)

After a quick shower and getting dressed it was time to tackle Amy’s bedroom. Since we’ve already had 2 vacations recently I’m using the school holidays to do a thorough clean/tidy/sort of all the rooms in the house. Amy and I spent a few hours working away – I even cleaned the door and all the mirror wardrobe tracks. The result was this.

We stopped for lunch.

Salad for lunch

Here’s a peak into our post- Easter fridge. It’s hard to reach for the fruit when that chocolate is in there – but I’m trying.

After my yummy salad and a bit of rest, we started on Christy’s room but only did her wardrobe before she called it quits. Suited me as I was feeling tired and my feet were getting a bit sore. It’s very hot here today. Was supposed to be 23 deg but is apparently 29 degs.

I then spent some time putting photos into my “photo a day” album, while Bailey camped out in his favourite spot.

At 3pm the girls rode to their singing lessons, then to visit Granny as it was her birthday last Saturday when we were away. They had made her a video slide-show which she was just delighted with.

After a bath, Christy played some games. She was winning :-).

Since Kevin wouldn’t be home for dinner, I pulled some chilli con carne out of the freezer which Amy & I enjoyed in a wrap.

I was flicking through TV channels and came across Mrs Winterbourne. I LOVE this movie (and am a HUGE Brendan Fraser fan) and it was just starting, so Amy and I settled in to watch.

Later I enjoyed another cup of tea and some of my Lindt bunny.

Kevin arrived home just as the movie was finishing and we all headed to bed. I read the lastest Suzanne Brockman until my eyes started to close.

A day in my life – March

Tea and note to myself

Even though Little Jenny Wren is no longer hosting “A day in life” I’ve decided to keep doing it for now.

I had a really rough night. I woke about 3am and tossed and turned and slept a little until 5.30am when Christy crawled into our bed cause she couldn’t sleep either. After about 15min I suggested she get up and watch TV so I could get a bit more sleep. I think I finally gave up about 6.30am. So a VERY slow start this morning. I came downstairs and got myself a cup of tea and sat and read blogs for a while.  Amy is still sick – she’s been crook since Wednesday poor thing.

Christy got out the playdough – which she hasn’t done for a long time.

Kevin headed off to work (yes, on a Saturday) about 8am so I thought I’d better do some exercise.

Time for execise

I really didn’t want to but I haven’t done any the last few days and think maybe that’s why I’m not sleeping well. I made up my own program of Red Carpet Ready exercises which took me around 20mins – definitely better than the zero minutes I wanted to do. And yes, I did feel much better afterwards. I had a protein shake for my breakfast (and read more blogs).

I got Christy some breakfast as she hadn’t eaten yet (reheated some french toast that was in the fridge) Then I headed back upstairs for a shower and to run Amy a bath. Then I unpacked the dishwasher and hung out the washing I had started earlier.

I had another cup of tea,

then decided to take advantage of this “free” day (we had planned to go on Kevin’s new little boat) and sort through the girls games/baskets.

Shelves all messy Shelves all tidied

It might not look much different but I can tell, and it’s definitely cleaner – how embarassing!! I do dust every week but don’t move the photo frames – as you can see.

Dusty shelf

Time for some lunch. I made Amy some wraps and I had my current favourite – a slice of cape seed bread with hommus, vintage cheese and cucumber. Of course this was eaten while reading blogs.

Lunch

Then I made a cup of tea and headed into the scrapbook room, where I spent the remainder of the afternoon.

Oh, I also made sure to get at least one photo of me today – it’s a no make-up, hair pulled back, daggy clothes day here :-).

Libby

Kevin arrived home at 5pm with a few groceries and some flowers (which I had asked him to buy). I’ve been inspired by new favourite blog Attic 24 to place some flowers around the house, and I have to say I’m really enjoying them. Normally I would just do a big vase on the kitchen table but I’ve been splitting them up – some on my desk, some in the kitchen, scrapbook desk and bedside table.

At 5pm Amy was still complaining of feeling very sick so we decided Kevin should take her to the doctors. We doubt they’ll do anything but at least we’ll know. I typed up this e-mail, helped Christy tidy up her stuff (she has played SOOO much today), pottered around a bit and got dinner organised. I made Christy some toast for dinner and sat down with a book about 7pm. Kevin and Amy arrived home just before 7.30pm. The doc isn’t sure what’s wrong with her but has ordered a heap of tests – which, of course, we won’t be able to have done until Monday.

I put together our dinner – TVP Taco wraps which we ate while watching Bolt. Later, I worked on my knitting.

Knitting by the TV Knitting by the TV

The movie finished about 9.30pm and we all headed to bed, where I admired my flowers while I read a Virginia Henley novel for a short while.

A Day in My Life – February

daylife

I’ve been managing to sleep in a bit more lately and woke up around 6.30am. Rosie was already on our bed, Bailey asleep on his back. We ended up with Amy and the dogs in our bed for early morning cuddles.

Around 7am I forced myself out of bed and into my workout clothes. It was hard today.

Ready to workout

I gave Kevin his Valentine’s day card.

I did my red carpet ready workout and felt good once I started. Afterwards I made my a protein shake, and got Bailey’s his breakfast (which he eats in the pantry) .

I then had a quick shower before heading to dog training. This was only our first proper week (last week was the introduction). Amy took Bailey and I took Rosie – who has already been put up into first class.

When we got back I tided up around the house and played on the computer while having a cup of tea.

Then I helped Kevin sort through the camping trailer – hopefully if the weather co-operates we’ll be going camping next weekend. It’s been over 3 years since we last went so we needed to check our supplies.

Packing the camping trailer

Kevin then left to go do some clay pigeon shooting (his newest hobby) and the girls and I had lunch. I had leftovers from last nights dinner out – a falafel wrap. Amy had soup and Christy had toast.

Falafel Wrap

The rain had started so after lunch I did some scrapbooking.

Around 5pm I headed into the kitchen to get started on tonights special Valentine’s Dinner. We don’t exchange presents but I like to make the day a little special. I made Macaroni and Cauliflower with cheese sauce as seen on a new blog I’ve been reading. Unfortunately I had to send Kevin on emergency run to buy cauliflower as the one in the fridge was a little furry :-(. Dinner was yummy and I set the table nicely. Kevin couldn’t care less but I think the girls appreciated the effort. They also received their cards with chocolate hearts.

I made heart shaped toast for Christy.

After cleaning up the kitchen while Christy read to Kevin, we settled down to watch “Narnia” again.

And later we enjoyed our special Valentine’s day dessert.

This was the last month of A day in my life (though I may continue it on my own). Be sure to visit Little Jenny Wren to see more “a day in my life” posts. Thanks so much for hosting this Jenny – it’s been so fun. I’m thinking of ordering a snapfish book to have all my days together.
