Foodie Friday

IMG_4506.jpg

I seem to have spent a fortune on food this week (but things were a little run down I guess). I actually did 3 seperate shops this week.

Woolworths on Satudary, Aldi on Tuesday….

IMG_7735.JPG

and Coles for my big shop on Thursday.

So how is my sugar free challenge going? I’m pleased to report it’s going well. I find I’m not enjoying sweet things like tinned pineapple (in juice) which I’ve always loved. And I tend to feel full a lot quicker. Most of the time I’m not bothered that I can’t eat sweets but I do miss baking. I tried to make a new healthy choc cake today but it was a big fail. On the negative side my arthritis is as bad as ever (due to the humidity) but on the plus side I lost 2kg last week :-). I’ve got 4 more days to go and will then make some decisions as to how I proceed.

Breakfast this week…. By pure chance I made a protein pancake on Tuesday….

IMG_4440.jpg

Fried egg on toast….

IMG_7737.JPG

Veggie scramble with toast…

IMG_7729.JPG

and French Toast made by Christy…

IMG_7791.JPG

I made some Lentil Soup which I know doesn’t look the best but I promise it tastes amazing…

IMG_7753.JPG

And there were afternoon teas with the girls. The watermelon this week has been the best all year.

IMG_4445.jpg

Dinner included…. Quorn fillet, mashed potato, mushroom and brussel sprouts…

IMG_7733.JPG

Quorn Bolognase…

IMG_7736.JPG

Santa Fe Casserole… again doesn’t look the best but tastes great….

IMG_7745.JPG

We had one dinner flop. I made mushroom sauce (which I’ve made before) over pasta. Not sure if it was the wholemeal pasta (first time trying this) or because I missed the chicken stock cube from the sauce. I’m thinking it was the pasta.

IMG_7726.JPG

There was also a special Valentine’s Dinner of Yorkshire Pudding and Roast Veggies.

Oh, and if you want to see the video I made BEFORE starting the no-sugar challenge, I finally managed to get it uploaded (yay!!!)

Linking up with what am I eating.

Tell, me did you have any outstanding success or failure in the kitchen this week?

Foodie Friday

I have to apologise for being such a bad blogger of late. I guess I’m still settling into the school routine and I’ve been making more of an effort to spend more time with the girls – like having our sit down afternoon tea. Plus as you will read soon, I’ve taken on a new food challenge this week – which has taken up some time with researching and planning and such. AND our internet has been mucking up. I’ve given up waiting to upload our weekend away video and will just share the photos (should be tomorrow).

Anyway, onto Foodie Friday.

This week featured a fun weekend in Sydney with LOTS of food treats, starting with mushroom crepes at Pancakes at the Rocks.

IMG_7496.JPG

Then there was a delicious high tea enjoyed while cruising around Sydney harbour.

Dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. Amy, Kevin and I shared potato skins and nachos.

IMG_7685.JPG

On Wednesday I started a 2 week challenge to eliminate processed sugar from my diet. I did film a video but it’s taking too long to upload. I will still have a couple pieces of fruit a day but no juices, added sugars, and for this two weeks no sugar substitutes like maple syrup or honey. And I still buy foods with little/no additives and preservatives. I’m doing this to help my imflammation/arthritis and to break the sugar habit. Kevin has joined me which is fantastic as I think he has more of a sugar addiction than I do.

Obviously there was a big clean out of the pantry – look at all that space up on top where all our chocolate and dried fruit was.

IMG_7713.jpg

At this stage it has all been moved out to our garage pantry. Out of sight out of mind.

IMG_7709.JPG

I also filmed a grocery haul and luckily enough I took a couple of photos.

IMG_7711.JPG IMG_7712.JPG

This week I did muffin tin Monday for the girls – it’s been such a long time since I did one of these.

IMG_7704.JPG

Other meals this week included cruskits with cheese and tomato….

IMG_4395.jpg

Homemade falafels with hummus and some veggies….

IMG_7717.JPG

A very misshapen veggie patty (note : don’t cook them in the George Foreman Grill)…

IMG_7710.jpg

Overnight oats….

IMG_7721.JPG

and popcorn….

IMG_7718.JPG

I’m only 3 days into my no-sugar challenge but besides being hungry much of yesterday, things are going well. If anyone has gone or tried going sugar free I’d love to hear about your experience.

Foodie Friday

IMG_7421.jpg

The poor fridge is looking a little empty this Friday – which is probably a good thing as we’re going to Sydney for the weekend. This week I did a couple of shops, including one at Woolworths so I could get some of Macro vegetarian bites – which we love.

IMG_7349.JPG

Fruit and veg top up….

IMG_7369.jpg

On Saturday we had a special Australia Day BBQ lunch with Nan, Pop and Granny.

IMG_7350.jpg

The star was damper from Baker’s Delight…which we look forward to ALL year long….

Amy made a special dinner for us on Sunday night. There was a vegetarian lasagne, baked tomatoes, garlic mushrooms and sweet potato fries. All so yummy.

IMG_7366.JPG

IMG_7367.JPG

There was also a special lunch out at local cafe for Amy and I (Christy was back at school).

We decided on 3 dishes to share…

IMG_7382.jpg

Mushrooms with truffle oil and feta cheese….

IMG_7379.JPG

Bruschetta…

IMG_7381.JPG

and my favourite….the cheesy potato croquettes…

IMG_7385.jpg

Sweet potato risotto

IMG_7393.jpg

There was a cheese plate on our lazy, wet Sunday afternoon….

IMG_4246.jpg

Pikelets with jam and cream for afternoon tea. I’m trying to serve a proper afternoon snack for the girls every day after school. Mostly it will be fruit but occasionally something yummy like this.

IMG_7384.JPG

Kale chips…. see I told you it would be mostly healthy. Both my girls LOVE these.

IMG_7390.JPG

And this week Australian Afternoon Tea was my tea of choice.

IMG_7387.jpg

I didn’t manage to do a proper menu plan this week but hopefully now that the girls are back at school I’ll get it done next week. Dinner is so much easier when you know what you’re having and have all the necessary ingredients at hand :-).

Bad Food Blogger

Sorry I’ve been such a bad food blogger. Between settling back into routine and being very blah about food at the moment I’m trying to decide whether to keep the food blog going. I know my posts are fairly boring but don’t know if I’ve got the time to make them more interesting. Maybe I should just do more food posts (like a weekly recap) on my main blog. Please let me know what you think.

To try and play catch up I’m just going to share some meals/snacks  from the week.

A red onion and chili roll from Bakers Delight. Not very good for you but VERY yummy :-).
