Another year older

Birthday cards

Well, it wasn’t quite the most memorable of birhdays, what with feeling really yuck, but it was a nice day none-the-less. I got some presents off the girls – a necklace from Amy, and the matching earings from Christy, plus chocolates from both of them and handmade cards.

From Kevin I got an overlocker (that I picked out myself) and from Mum & Dad I got an assortment of goodies inc. the swim with the whale sharks (we’ll be doing on our upcoming trip to Western Australia, a mag subscription to In Britain, some new joggers and a couple of skirts. I was very spoiled indeed. I also recieved some movie tickets and gift vouchures from relatives and a lovely necklace from my Auntie – def.  a year of jewellery – which is nice since Kevin won’t buy me any more (for ethical reasons – kids, etc being used in mines).

New necklace

It’s usually a crazy afternoon with kids activities so we didn’t plan to do anything but Amy ended up not going to swimming (due to a sore back) so we were able to have  birthday dinner at Mums. We just got takeaway pizza but it was very nice.

No birthday cake this year but we did have a bowl of ice-cream instead :-).

It’s my birthday and I’ll feel yuck if I want to..

I think someone forgot to tell the birthday gods that you aren’t supposed to feel yucky with a cold (not swine flu) on your birthday. It’s Wintery, cold and rainy outside and I good morning for snuggling in a warm bed, but I’m wide awake at 5am with a pounding headache, achy body and runny nose…. what fun!

New necklace

At least I have this beautiful necklace to cheer me up. One of my new favourite bloggers, Lisa Clarke of Polka Dot Cottage, makes jewellery. As soon as I saw this set, inspired her recent trip to the beach, I knew I had to buy one for myself as an a birthday present. And I just LOVE it!!! Be sure to visit her shop to see her other creations – they are so beautiful.

Wollongong Steelworks

Wollongong Steelworks

Today Amy’s academically gifted class had an excurision to Wollongong Steelworks, or more properly Bluescope Steel.

Wollongong Steelworks

We caught the bus and watched a video about the history of the plant, before doning our safety gear for the tour.

Libby at the steelworks

It was absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately they have just shut down the blast furnice (due to a drop in orders for steel) but we got to see a slap being rolled out, which was cool. We also drove around much of the area (which is huge) and got to see lots of different areas, including the man-made harbour.

Inside the steelworks

After lunch we drove up to Hill 60, which overlooks much of Wollongong and it’s beaches.

Admiring the view

I learnt a lot and am just so glad I got to see the facility that is so integral to Wollongong and it’s history.

Mother’s Day

Mothers Day 2

I had a very nice Mother’s Day. It started off with presents in bed. I was very excited to get a present from Kevin – only the second time that I can recall. And even more excited when I saw the box and realized it was the Kitchenaid mixer I had recently told him I would like “one day”. It’s pink too!!!

Present from Kevin

From Amy I recieved some vochures, chocolates and a notepad holder for the car.

From Christy I got vochures (love the afternoon of peace one) and a photo frame.

For my own Mum I got some of her favourite chocolates, a cute goldie box with goldie notecards and some homemade napkins – so happy with how they came out. I found the instrucitons here.

And for my Granny – I knitted a  scarf.

Amy went to a party from 11am – 3pm (yes, on Mothers Day) and we had Mum, Dad and my Granny over for lunch. I had prepared most of it on Saturday so it was a nice, relaxing afternoon.
