The week that was

Question time – Do you like the week that was posts as they are or would you prefer seeing more things (like a lunch out) in a seperate posts? TWTW post started out as a way for me to share photos that didn’t really fit in other posts but it nows seems like more events just end up in this post. So I just thought I’d get your opinions on what you prefer.

It was the week the Iditarod was won…. by Mitch Seavey. It was his kennels that we visited in Alaska so I was excited for him.

IMG_4714.jpg

I saw him win then literally  had to race out the door to a meeting about our upcoming Germany trip (Amy & Kevin were already waiting in the car) ….

IMG_4716.jpg

which meant I caught the rest of the action on my ipad in the car …..

IMG_8027.JPG

It was the week Christy got her new glasses….

IMG_0068.JPG

aren’t they so cute?

IMG_0067.JPG

and it was the week I had another skin biopsy – in the same area I already had a mole removed…. nothing to worry about, he just wants to see if he needs to remove the lump I have…

IMG_4713.jpg

It was the week we got documents and jackets for Germany…. only one month to go now….

IMG_0124.JPG

and it was the week I found these lovely flowers in our garden… IMG_0168.JPG

IMG_0169.JPG

It was the week I took the dogs on a longer walk and hence we got a different view of the lake,….

IMG_4736.jpg

and it was the week of stunning skies….

IMG_0206.JPG

It was the week of red nails…

IMG_8026.JPG

and blue nails…. though I’m not very happy with this one as it chips very easily….

IMG_0199.JPG

And it was the week I bought myself some new lipsticks…

IMG_0105.JPG

It was the week we had lunch at the Nan Tien Temple…

IMG_4752.jpg  IMG_4750.jpg

upload

Don’t think it would have been too bad on my elimination diet.

IMG_4755.jpg

And it was the week of crazy Bailey….

IMG_4698.JPG

IMG_4706.jpg

and his cute, fluffy feet…

A Day in my Life – 14th March, 2013

Can you believe this I’ve being doing a Day in the life posts for 5 years? How crazy is that? But such a great record to have – esp. of the girls. Anyone remember back then? I obviously didn’t really know what I was doing the first time and my posts got a lot more detailed (and photo heavy) after that.

So what did the 14th March, 2013 look like? It was your typical start. Up around 5.30am, dogs out, tea made, YouTube watched. Unfortunately Rosie went right under our back deck and came inside with muddy paws – which I didn’t know about until I spotted the mud all over the carpet and spots where she had been. This is Bailey but Rosie had obviously been on this lounge earlier.

IMG_0079.JPG

Around 7am I got dressed and ready to take the dogs on a walk. I’ve been wearing the dog walking belt as a place to put my phone. I usually put it in my bra but I get to sweaty at the moment.

IMG_0080.JPG

Due to Rosie’s muddy paws I had put the dogs outside so I collected them from the side gate.

IMG_0082.JPG

and we headed down to the park for our walk. We managed a pretty fast pace today for the first time in a long time.

IMG_0093.JPG

When we got back I hosed off Rosie’s muddy feet then went inside to recover. Christy was dressed and ready for school so worked on her homework.

IMG_0103.JPG

I got the washing started….

IMG_0110.JPG

then saw Christy off to school.

IMG_0114.JPG

I then cleaned off the lounge before the mud got spread further.

IMG_0118.JPG

Then it was time for my breakfast – a berry and mango smoothie. I know it doesn’t look very good but it tasted delicious.

IMG_0128.jpg

IMG_0129.JPG

While having breakfast I did a bit of shopping….

IMG_0131.JPG

then hung out the washing.

IMG_0134.JPG

You might notice that I haven’t showered. There is a good reason. I had a skin biopsy yesterday and I’m not allowed to get the area wet for 24 hours. Instead I got to work in the kitchen, starting with the open shelves….

IMG_0135.jpg

In amongst tackling cupboards I took out food to the chooks and collected the eggs. Our broodie girl has finally come off the eggs.

IMG_0146.JPG

I also baked some veggies….

IMG_0147.JPG

and tidied my desk, while updating details of our Germany trip.

IMG_0149.JPG

There were labels for the pantry.

IMG_0152.JPG

And finally a welcomed break for lunch and YouTube.

IMG_0157.JPG

Afterwards I headed back into the kitchen while Rosie and Bailey enjoyed a treat.

IMG_0158.JPG

IMG_0160.JPG

I didn’t have to pick up Amy today as she was staying in town with some school friends then heading to Drama lessons. I cut up some watermelon for Christy.

IMG_0161.JPG

who came home with a card she’d made for me.

IMG_0162.JPG

IMG_0164.JPG

I worked on my grocery haul video….

IMG_0165.JPG

then vacuumed the mud off the floor….

IMG_0166.JPG

Time for a snack – lentil soup and rockmelon.

IMG_0167.JPG

I then took the bins out,

IMG_0170.JPG

I prepared some veggies for my dinner…

IMG_0172.JPG

and made some almond milk…

IMG_0173.jpg IMG_0174.jpg

Time for the puppies dinner…

IMG_0175.JPG

and my dinner….quinoa, veggies and a ginger sauce…

IMG_0177.JPG

Christy buttered some bread to go with her soup. And since it was just the two of us we enjoyed dinner on the couch while watching Got to Dance, followed by a few episodes of the Pioneer Woman. One of the episodes was all about chocolate – which was a little hard to watch.

IMG_0179.JPG

Amy sent me a photo of the new Mexican place that Kevin and her dined at.

IMG_0187.JPG

I was in a bit of pain tonight so decided to head to bed when Christy went up at 8.30pm. I made some mint tea to enjoy.

IMG_0186.JPG

After saying goodnight to Christy I did my evening skin care….

IMG_0188.JPG

then hopped into bed to watch some more YouTube and enjoy my tea.

IMG_0191.JPG

IMG_0193.JPG

Final beauty care…

IMG_0194.JPG

and puppies on the bed since Kevin wasn’t home.

IMG_0197.JPG

Amy and Kevin arrived home about 9.30pm. I read some blogs and turned off the lights about 10pm.

And if you’d like to see all this in video mode you can (as my new camera takes video every time you take a photo).

Foodie Saturday ??

Yep, missed Friday again. This week I blame it on having 2 videos plus the photos to upload. Plus I’ve been busy trying and reorganising my kitchen.

Anyway, on with the show.

This week started with the weekend of Amy’s party. We all know that involved pizza and ice cream cake. Sunday I ate the last of my indulgences. Then on Monday it was the start of an elimination diet. This is mainly for my inflammation/arthritis pain, but also for weight loss (since they are both highly related).

This means

No Gluten

No Dairy

No Soy

No Sugar

No corn

I’ve also been having no eggs this week. Basically I’ve been eating a whole foods diet with LOTS of veggies. Here’s a look at my grocery shop this week.

IMG_8020.JPG

IMG_8021.JPG

Breakfast has been a green brown smoothie made with frozen berries, homemade almond milk, ground flax seeds, chia seeds and slippery elm bark. Looks disgusting but tastes delicious.

IMG_4708.jpg

Lunch was a salad with added seeds, hummus and something extra like chick peas, veggie bites or falafel (all gluten free, of course)

IMG_8025.JPG

IMG_4699.jpg

IMG_0071.JPG

IMG_0156.JPG

Dinners were pretty simple and straightforward as it’s been a bit of strange week. Next week I hope/plan to be more adventurous (esp, as my energy levels are already increasing and pain levels decreasing).

IMG_4711.jpg

IMG_0069.JPG

IMG_0178.JPG

I didn’t do a lot of snacking but if I was hungry mid-afternoon I’d have some lentil soup, fruit or rice thins with hummus.

IMG_0167.JPG

So how’s it all going?

I had my first challenge last at the basketball but I passed by having my dinner early (at 5pm) before we left and had a handful of nuts at half time. I did envy everyone eating popcorn and ice cream but just focussed on how good I’m going to feel :-). The diet isn’t the most family friendly so I’ve had to make seperate meals for the others, which I don’t really like. But if I succeed in achieving good health it will well be worth it. And as I said, I’m going to get more creative in the kitchen and hopefully come up with some family friendly meals. The goal at this stage is to eat this way for 3 weeks but we’ll see how I go.
