Busy Days

Well, it’s been a busy start to the week after a rather lazy weekend. Monday I did cardio at the gym, cleaned downstairs, bought some food for the chooks and guinea pigs. Did manage to find a bit of time to scrapbook a few pages, then after school Amy had to see a speech lady (she makes a “s” sound like a “th”) and then her doctor to get the results of last weeks blood test. Test came back fine so we’re waiting another 2 weeks and if she not better (doc thinks it’s some kind of post operative trauma) then we’ll go to a pediatrition. Time in home to make dinner for a hungry husband and watch some telly (currently watching Monk).

Today I dropped the girls at school (doc has said Amy should keep going), then did the groceries, went to the gym (legs today but only set of squats), come home to unload the groceries, then back out again for my bone scan. Since I was in town I picked up some rice paper rolls (so yummy).

Came home to eat lunch and check e-mail, then back into town to have photos taken of my bones. Back to pick girls up from school, home again for 1.5 hours, make dinner and am about to take the girls (or at least Christy) to swimming lessons. Boy, I’m tired just typing this all up. And I’ve had a killer headache most of the day (actually I’ve had one most days the last week).

Back in swing of things

The girls went back to school yesterday so I’m gradually getting back in the swing of things. The new routines I set up for the girls are going well and there is a lot less yelling (from me) than usual. Went shopping this morning – got some more wool (to knit another scarf), picked up the book for book group, bought some bread (+ Christy’s favourite cheese rolls and some chocolate scones that Kevin had been asking for). Then went to Office Works and bought some more storage boxes for the scrapbook room, picked up some of my favourite rice paper rolls to have for lunch. I then had an appointment with a neurologist – I’ve been having pains and aches in my hands and feet for the last fews years but it’s getting worse. He couldn’t detect anything wrong so next step is a blood test and a bone scan (which is booked for next week), then back to see him in 6 weeks.

I’ve been feeling a bit down in the dumps the last few days – probably cause my eating has been pretty bad. Need to recommit to healthy eating. I haven’t even wanted to go to the gym (which is when I really know I’m feeling down) but have forced myself to go – and of course, once I’m there I enjoy my workout. At least Mum & Dad will be home on Sunday so I’ll have someone to talk to when I’m feeling like this.

Anyway, I don’t have to cook dinner tonight – Kevin wasn’t feeling well last night so didn’t eat his dinner so we’re having leftovers – vegetable paella.

Organic foods

Well, we’re back to buying as many organic foods as possible. I know it’s the best for us but sometimes I let the cost put me off. Here’s a list of what should be eaten organic and what doesn’t matter as much.

The Top Twelve – Don’t Buy These Unless They’re Organic

1. Peaches
2 Apples
3 Capsicum

4 Celery
5 Nectarines
6 Strawberries
7 Cherries
8 Pears
9 Grapes – Imported
10 Spinach
11 Lettuce
12 Potatoes

Bottom Twelve — Buy These, Remember to Peel and Wash Well

1 Onions (Least Contaminated of the entire list)
2 Avocado
3 Sweet Corn – Frozen
4 Pineapples
5 Mango
6 Asparagus
7 Sweet Peas – Frozen
8 Kiwi

For those in the Sydney/Illawarra area we get our organic produce from Doorstep Organics – they deliver right to my door and have always been great to deal wtih.

Winter has finally arrived

Well, winter finally arrived today. It’s cold and wet and a good day to stay indoors. I spent the morning cleaning and declutting my bedroom and bathroom and going through my wardrobe. Was a bit depressing finding all these nice clothes that no longer fit. I realize I do need to buy a few things – namely some long pants. Also spent time in the kitchen – made a barley, chickpea and carrot soup (new recipe), sweet potato rissoto and then later some pumpkin soup. Took some down to Granny – she was pretty pleased. Scrapped a couple of pages and spent time on the computer. Quite a nice day. I feel I’m gaining a much better control over the house and I think it’s impacting on the girls – morning have definitely been a lot less stressful. Didn’t get to the gym today – my heel was way too sore after doing the bedroom, but I did take Rosie for her run – and yet again, she went in the thick, black mud. And much as she hates getting hosed off she now knows that’s what happens when we get home.

Still been slack about our trip diary…..
