A day in my life – 31st March, 2012

Had a bit of sleep in this morning and didn’t get up until nearly 7am (yes, that’s definitely a sleep in for me). In fact I really only got up because Kevin was up getting ready. Kevin had called the dogs up so it was nice getting to snuggle with them.

IMG_2183.JPG

Unfortunately Bailey decided to rub himself all over the bed and he was having so much fun I didn’t stop him…… oops…. lucky our bedding is getting due to be replaced….

IMG_2194.JPG

After letting the dogs out it was time for a cup of tea

IMG_2185.JPG

before saying goodbye to Amy and Kevin who were heading off for some more diving training.

IMG_2186.JPG

Then some computer time. Got sidetracked watching Enrique videos.

IMG_2190.JPG

Christy finally woke up just before 9am so I made her some french toast for breakfast.

IMG_2201.JPG

then headed out with the dogs on the trike. Such a gorgeous day.

IMG_2202.JPG

IMG_2204.jpg IMG_2206.jpg

After the dogs workout it was time for my workout. 15mins interval training on the exercise bike.

IMG_2212.jpg

While Christy did some yoga…

IMG_2213.JPG

and the dogs recovered from their run.

IMG_2215.JPG

Time for a green smoothie while I cooled down…

IMG_2216.jpg

and to hang out our bedding. Luckily I found a spare bottom sheet in the linen cupboard (Kevin bought a few cheap spare ones when Bailey was a destroying streak a while ago).

IMG_2219.JPG

Not sure why but the pups love to lie beside the house in the sun.

IMG_2222.JPG

I went up to have my shower and get dressed. Just I was finishing up around 11am I heard Kevin and Amy arrive back. They got to work washing all the scuba gear.

IMG_2223.JPG

Amy is now officially an open water diver. So proud of her. She’s done really well with the course and managing her gear. And I love that Kevin and her have something special to do together.

IMG_2224.JPG

I made myself a shopping list and Christy and I headed out. First stop was to return some library books.

IMG_2228.JPG

Then to the supermarket. Christy’s mission was to see what she could buy with the money we would have given her for showbags. After researching the other night we realized they aren’t very good value these days and she could do much better buying EXACTLY what she wanted from the supermarket. This will last her for the whole of the school holidays and she’s so happy with her haul – which she isn’t allowed to touch until the Easter Show on Friday.

IMG_1415.JPG

Groceries done, there was a stop at Bakers Delight before we headed home.

IMG_1416.JPG

I got things put away and made lunch – which starred a very delicious baguette.

IMG_2230.JPG

Kevin and the girls headed out to get a few things and I sat and put my feet up for a bit. Later I made some popcorn.

IMG_2232.JPG

Kevin dropped the girls home and headed back out. Christy got to work on her project. Don’t you love the little hammer that Kevin got her?

IMG_2233.JPG

I whipped up a batch of carrot cake muffins – healthy and yummy – I’ll share the recipe soon.

IMG_2235.JPG

I also made some almond milk….

IMG_2238.jpg

and cut up watermelon for everyone to eat. Kevin and Amy worked on a trident for a mufty day costume.

IMG_2239.JPG

I fed the chooks and collected eggs. 15 today. Only 9 chickens so I must have missed collection yesterday :-).

IMG_2240.JPG

I started dinner. Lisa’s Honey Pumpkin Risotto – which is now a family favourite.

IMG_2242.JPG

Yum.

IMG_2244.JPG

Okay, it’s actually not everyone’s favourite. We’ve been getting tough with Christy and making her eat ALL the dinner I serve her (which isn’t very much). She now has the choice between eating dinner or going to bed early. She almost went to bed tonight, but being family night and knowing we had ice-cream for dessert, she finally ate it all. While we were waiting for her to finish (you can see her at the table) I sorted out my magazines.

IMG_2245.JPG

I then got into my pjs and painted my nails China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy (flurescent orange – much to Amy’s disgust). Then finally it was time for movie night. Having watched Back to the Future I and II last weeken it was time for no. III.

IMG_1420.jpg

Midway through we had intermission for some ice cream. I haven’t had any for nearly a month so it was very much enjoyed, esp as it came with an Easter egg.

IMG_1422.JPG

After the movie everyone headed up to bed. I let the dogs out and got the kitchen all cleaned up. LOVE when it looks like this.

IMG_2247.JPG

I ended up starting a new book – The Lance Mackey (of Iditarod fame) Story – which I bought in Alaska last year. Such a fascinating man. Loving the book so far. Had to force myself to put it down around 11pm.

A day in my life – 15th March, 2012

You’ll be glad to know that the Iditarod has now been won (by Dallas Seavey who we met in Anchorage last year) so I really should be getting back into regular blogging now.

I’ve been sleeping much better (due to my arthritis pain not being so bad) so slept till around 6am. Still dark now which takes some getting used to. Dogs out, tea made, and an Iditarod catch-up (though won it isn’t finished until the last musher arrives in Nome).

IMG_1946.JPG

Kevin and Amy left at 7am and shortly after I was joined by Christy. We pottered around getting our jobs done and putting the birds out….

IMG_1949.JPG

and making breakfast….

IMG_1951.JPG

I opted for a 1/2 bagel with hummus, cheese and tomato. With tea of course.

IMG_1950.JPG

Just after 8.30am Christy headed off to school. Shantel is away this week so she’s all on her lonesome.

IMG_1961.JPG

I then went upstairs to get dressed. And Rosie was thrilled to be presented with an empty toilet roll.

IMG_1975.jpg

I then got everyone attached to the trike.

IMG_1978.JPG

and we headed off on a bike ride to the lake.

IMG_1979.JPG

We’ve been having such a lovely sunny week – finally.

IMG_1983.jpg

Back home I did some upper body exercises. Finally getting back into again.

IMG_1985.JPG

Then showered and dressed before getting an orange (and a tea) for morning tea.

IMG_1992.JPG

And you’ll be pleased to know that Bailey scored himself a toilet roll. I do have the strangest dogs.

IMG_1993.jpg

After a rest and play on the laptop, I did some paperwork for the Uniform shop.

IMG_1998.JPG

Then it was time to drag out a 30kg bag of food for the chickens.

IMG_1999.JPG

Looks like they were hungry.

IMG_2000.JPG

At 1.30pm I finally had some lunch. A falafel salad today.

IMG_2002.JPG

I spent the remainder of the afternoon relaxing as I’m trying not to overdo things and have my arthritis flair up again. Just before 3pm I headed out. And was pleased to see that Kevin had taken the bins down for me when he popped in earlier in the day.

IMG_2003.JPG

Thought I’d better include one photo of me today. Even though I look pretty shocking with no make-up on and hair all pulled back.

IMG_2005.JPG

Before collecting Amy from the bus stop, I dropped into the local shop to get some Billabongs (chocolate ice-creams for my US friends). The big supermarkets no longer sell them so I have to make a special trip here.

IMG_2009.JPG

When we got back home I found Christy sitting at the kitchen table. Snack made and chess board all set up for a game. Amy was nice enough to play her.

IMG_2010.JPG

And for the pups it was time of the month that Rosie dreads. She knows when I get out the container. Bailey is just eager for his treat but Rosie know that before the treat comes the flea treatment. I don’t know why she hates it so much – maybe the sensation or the smell. She’d been beside Bailey until she saw the container. She’s good though and will reluctantly come to me when I call her.

IMG_2012.JPG

I made a start on dinner…

IMG_2013.JPG

then got myself some afternoon tea…

IMG_2014.jpg

Just after 5pm I ran the girls up to dance lessons.

IMG_2022.JPG

It was such a lovely day I decided to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine and sit outside with a mag while I finished my tea.

IMG_2024.JPG

I then bought the washing in and made some mashed potatoes and banana muffins while watching youtube videos.

IMG_2026.JPG

Time for another cuppa. This time I made my Christmas tea.

IMG_2027.JPG

Then at 7pm it was out again to pick up the girls. Such a gorgeous evening.

IMG_1308.JPG

Finally home for the day I finished off our dinner and got the pups theirs.

IMG_2028.JPG

Finally it was time to eat. I don’t normally do this pickup so have dinner ready when the girls get home. Tonight we didn’t sit down till around 7.30pm. Oh and the thing that looks like chicken is a quorn fillet :-).

IMG_2029.JPG

After dinner the girls went off to watch TV and do their own thing. I got into my pj’s and had just started to watch some TV when Kevin arrived home. I watched Selling Houses Australia before heading to bed to read for just a little bit. All the exercise and busi-ness has tired me out. But boy does it feel good to be able to do these things again and not be in terrible pain by the end of the day.

A Day in my Life – 1st March, 2012

Sorry I haven’t been blogging much lately. I’m still adjusting to life with arthritis and developing a new daily routine. I’m almost there (mentally) so will hopefully be blogging more soon (and getting back to making some youtube videos).

It won’t surprise anyone who lives nearby to hear that I awoke to rain, yet again. Dogs out (and dried) and tea and computer time. I was up about 5.30am and found Amy already at the computer working on her scuba course information.

IMG_1745.JPG

Kevin and Amy left around 7am. I keep listening for Christy but she’s at camp this week. I went upstairs and checked Amy’s room…

IMG_1746.JPG

In about 3mins I had it looking like this…

IMG_1748.JPG

I then showered and dressed. Unfortunately I’ve gained a bit of weight over the last few months so it’s rather hard to something that fits :-(.

IMG_1749.JPG

I did manage to put an outfit together, did my makeup and made our bed…

IMG_1753.jpg

and found Bailey pulling some burrs out of his fur….

IMG_1757.JPG

I put on a load of washing…

IMG_1758.jpg

and found a substitute wedding ring to wear (this was my Mum’s)….

IMG_1763.JPG

I then did the normal daily jobs of feeding the birds, emptying the dishwasher and organising some breakfast to eat in the car. Today I had a sweet chili and red onion scroll…

IMG_1764.JPG

I sent the dogs next door and headed out just after 8.30am. Not sure what was going on (the weather or just being 9am)  but there was SO much traffic on the way to Shellharbour….

IMG_1769.JPG

My main mission was Target. I had some things to return and picked up a few new things (including a couple of tops that fit)….

IMG_1572.JPG IMG_1574.jpg

Then it was on to Kiama….

IMG_1771.JPG

and my appointment with a dietician to try and work out if any foods I’m eating are contributing to my arthritis. The plan is to avoid bad additives and preservatives (as per Sue Dengate’s Fed Up book), try and get some movement every day and keep a record of what I’m eating and how I’m feeling. I go back to see her in a month.

IMG_1575.JPG

My petrol light had come on before I even got to Shellharbour so I knew I couldn’t leave Kiama without filling up. I knew of one petrol station so headed there.

IMG_1576.jpg IMG_1579.jpg

Then it was time to head back home. It wasn’t too bad a drive – just a light drizzle at times…

IMG_1773.JPG

It’s been raining for days now and there’s a lot of water in the paddocks…this is NOT a lake…

IMG_1774.JPG

I got home just before 1pm, put the clothes in the dryer, and heated up some potato soup that had been defrosting overnight. While it wasn’t cold outside at all, it sure looked like a good day for soup….

IMG_1778.JPG

Rosie hung out with me on the lounge…

IMG_1779.JPG

while I played on the laptop….and discovered it’s less than 3 days until the Iditarod starts….I’m just a little excited….

IMG_1780.JPG

When I went upstairs to change shoes I fed the fish…hmm… think the tank needs a bit of a clean…

IMG_1787.JPG

At 3pm it was time to pick up Amy & Emerson from the bus stop…. with my faithful sidekick of course… as you can see it started to clear up a bit…

IMG_1797.JPG

I then did a bit of ironing while watching some youtube videos… can you see the chicken at the door?….

IMG_1800.JPG

At 5pm I ran Amy up to dancing. We took Rosie along as well but she really doesn’t enjoy it….

IMG_1585.jpg

I went out to collect eggs – we’re getting 7 a day at the moment. Poor things, it’s so muddy out there….

IMG_1803.jpg

Time to make dinner…. quesadilla’s tonight. I got everything prepared and when Kevin came back with Amy all I had to do was cook them.

IMG_1805.JPG

Yum….

IMG_1808.JPG

After dinner Kevin did a bit of work with Amy for her scuba class. Kevin is an instructor and teaching a course on Saturday – which Amy is doing.

IMG_1809.JPG

I spent some time programming in shows to record….

IMG_1812.JPG

Then did some crochet while watching Sarah’s House. I haven’t worked on this blanket in ages and it was fun to work on it again…

IMG_1814.JPGIMG_1816.jpg

Around 9am I headed up to bed, taking off my makeup first…

IMG_1820.JPG

and enjoying a cup of tea in bed while reading on my kindle. Love Bailey sleeping on his back. He is such a funny dog and is always making us laugh. Kevin joined me not long after.

IMG_1823.JPG

I didn’t end up reading for very long as I found myself falling asleep.

A Day in my Life – 18th February, 2012

IMG_1640.JPG

So relieved that my arthritis has calmed down somewhat and I’m feeling the best I have in a few weeks. I slept in till around 6.30am. First up – the dogs out and the morning ritual of pain meds, fish oil and a cup of tea. Nice to see a bright blue sky. We never know what we’re going to get these days.

IMG_1638.JPG

Being a Saturday Kevin was home so the coffee maker got put to use when he came down.

IMG_1642.JPG

It was just the four of us for some time (Kevin, I and the pups). He was playing Warcraft while I caught up on blogs and e-mail.

IMG_1537.JPG

Christy surfaced and went next door to have breakfast with Nan, Amy surfaced and went back to her bedroom. Eventually I got hungry and prepared bagels for Kevin & I for breakfast.

IMG_1645.JPG IMG_1646.JPG

Afterwards I emptied the dishwasher, put on load of washing and showered and dressed.

IMG_1650.JPG

Kevin headed into work for a bit and the girls and I went to the mall for a bit of shopping. First up was new watches for them both. Amy got one of the yummy ice watches but Christy wanted a digital one.

IMG_1538.JPG

Then it was to Coles for a few groceries.

IMG_1540.JPG

Before heading upstairs to the cheapy shops for get some canvases for the girls and I found a heap of glass jars (yay).

IMG_1541.jpg

Last stop was Gloria Jeans for the usual Iced Chocolate – I am aware I’m a little addicted :-).

IMG_1542.jpg

Back home I got the groceries put away and put my feet up for a bit.

IMG_1544.JPG

Time to hang out the washing…

IMG_1651.JPG

and make some lunch….

IMG_1654.JPG

After lunch Kevin (with Christy’s help) got to work on the latest home project (blog post coming soon)

IMG_1656.JPG

I spent the remainder of the afternoon working on our Fiji album (one more session and it should be ready to order – hopefully tomorrow).

IMG_1549.JPG

Late afternoon Kevin and I went to have a swim, but Kevin deemed the water too cold, though in fact it was lovely.

IMG_1665.JPG

The sun was starting to disappear behind clouds but I was lucky enough some came out to dry me off.  It was so nice and relaxing getting those late Summer afternoon rays.

IMG_1667.JPG

While I relaxed the pups hunted for lizards.

IMG_1670.JPG

When I went back inside I found Kevin and Christy ordering some more pillow pets. I think it’s safe to say Kevin liked his birthday present if he’s ordering more (though these are for work!!!!)

IMG_1672.JPG

It was getting onto to dinner so I got started on a veggie slice, and also made some banana bread. Amy joined me and made a granola slice.

IMG_1674.jpg

Before dinner Christy presented me with this lovely picture – it’s me sitting on a hammock.

IMG_1675.JPG

We’ve been having a few issues with Amy’s attitude and behaviour so it wasn’t the nicest family dinner time, though everyone enjoyed the slice.

IMG_1676.JPG

After dinner I took the banana bread out of the oven but was sad to find it wasn’t cooked properly. This is the second loaf in a row (different recipe) so I’m not sure what’s going on.

IMG_1688.JPG

After dinner I painted my nails. Not really sure about this colour…

IMG_1679.JPG

Then it was time for family movie night.

IMG_1680.JPG

We couldn’t watch what we planned so ended up with this… any guesses?

IMG_1682.JPG

What about now?

IMG_1687.JPG

Amy promptly went to bed, not wanting to watch it again and claiming to be tired. But we only got half way through it before Kevin found himself falling asleep as well. I cleaned up downstairs, said goodnight to Christy and read on my kindle for a bit. I’m reading Feb Up by Sue Dengate and it’s surprisingly good reading. I’m looking at ways that changing my diet might help with arthritis. Sounds like it might be good for moody kids as well:-).
