Sugar withdrawals?

I woke up with a headache this morning – I’m thinking it might be due to sugar withdrawals. Even though I’ve been having a little each day it’s no where near as much as I was.  I decided to skip this mornings workouts and have today as my rest day instead of Sunday. Hoping to stop the headache from getting worse I had a cup of tea and piece of banana coconut loaf.

IMG_6152

Probably not the greatest start to the day but I made up for it by having a green smoothie (and my multi-vitamin) for breakfast a few hours later.

IMG_6154

I was supposed to do reading at school but Christy’s teacher was away so I ended up killing time at the shops before my manicure & pedicure. I was still feeling a little off so had a banana before my appointment at 10am. I don’t normally reach for fruit like this but I really enjoyed it and it actually kept me full for around 2 hours.

IMG_6155

I was just starting to get peckish after my appointment ended at 12pm but instead of getting lunch out as I planned I decided to wait until I got home. To tide myself over I had a choc nut bar while waiting to get into the carpark in town.

IMG_0525

By the time I got home at 1.30pm I was very ready for my salad – falafel & hummus again today – YUM!!!

IMG_6157

Still feeling off most of the afternoon so had a tea and handful of healthy handfuls at 3pm.

IMG_6161

Todays afternoon tea was 2 vegetarian rice paper rolls that I had picked up in town. I LOVE these but don’t get to have them very often.

IMG_6162

At 5.30pm I had another cup of tea and an hour or so later made some quesidillas for dinner. I forgot to buy salsa for the recipe I had planned to make so had to improvise with refried black beans, tomato and cheese. Boy was it yummy.

IMG_6165

Later I enjoyed 2 chocolates and cup of tea. Unbelievably I was more than satisfied with my two chocs – usually I would have had MANY more than that!

IMG_6167

Around 9pm I was still feeling a little off so had a handful of the veggie tortilla chips and some hummus.

IMG_6168

Unfortunately nothing seemed to kick the headache today but I feeling not so off when I went to bed.

Come on Autumn weather….

Had a lovely morning walk with the pups to start off yet another Summer like day. When Autumn will arrive I have NO idea – but I hope it’s soon.

Breakfast today was baked beans and scrambled eggs. Haven’t had this in ages and I really enjoyed it.

IMG_6128

Since breakfast was quite early today I was a little peckish again by 9.30 so had  some cruskits with spreadable cheese.

IMG_6129

I also made a green smothie to take with me in the car. I went to an info session on a TAFE course on a productive backyard gardening. But I’ve decided not to enroll at the present time.

IMG_0519

I seemed to be hungry every couple of hours today so by 12pm I was starving again. Todays salad was the same as yesterdays but with a small amount of creamy garlic dressing. One of these days I will have to try making my own. I just love having salads on hot days like today but I can’t wait till it’s cool enough to start making soup :-).

IMG_6132

Afternoon tea was a handful of those veggie chips from yesterday then as I was hungry (again) I had a “white” roll with cheese, mayo and salad. I don’t normally eat white bread but it was all we had in the house and I hoped a roll might actually keep me full for a while.

IMG_6148

When I took the girls to singing lessons I had planned to have a cup of tea but Amy REALLY wanted a milkshake so I ended up with a low-fat one as well. It was quite nice but not really worth it. I much prefer Gloria Jeans Iced Chocs.

Once home I got dinner started while I unpacked groceries. Tonight we had Sweet Potato Rissoto. I was given this recipe by a friend many years ago and it’s still a family favourite. I made a big batch so its likely to appear here on the blog again tomorrow.

Sweet Potato Rissoto

5 cups chicken stock

100 mls Extra virgin olive oil
1 red onion — cut into thin wedges
600 grams sweet potato — peel, cut into 2.5cm cubes
2 cups aborio rice
3/4 cup shaved parmasan (optional – I don’t use)

Heat 60mls oil in wok, add onion and cook for 2-3 mins.

Add sweet pot and rice, stir until well coated.

Stir in ladleful of hot stock and cook, stirring continuously. Add more when stock in absorbed. Continue for 20min until rice in creamy.

Stir in shaved parm and 2tbl sage (if desired)

Supper tonight was a small piece of banana coconut loaf and dark chocolate thins with a cup of tea. Hoping a bit of sugar will ease the headache I’ve had all day.

A good day for a run

but not by me. Today is Christy’s cross country carnival at school.

My day started with a red carpet ready workout. I’ve been having trouble motivating myself to exercise lately so I’ve been utilitizing the SASE (short & sweet exercise) programs – today I did STONG. I still get a good workout but it only takes around 20mins.

I followed this with a green smoothie. I forgot to take a photo but funnily enough, it looked EXACTLY like yesterdays :-).

A few hours later, I had cleaned the spa room and chicken area and gotten Christy off to school. Time for a cup of tea and a wrap made of mountain bread, hummus, cheese & carrot.

More housework – this time going through all the drawers in our bedroom. Could not believe how many expired medicines Kevin had – but every time he goes on a dive trip he stocks up everything he MIGHT POSSIBLY need (as he dives in remote places). The oldest find expired in 2002!!!!!

I headed up to the school just before 12pm to watch Christy run in the cross country. Doesn’t she look hot and tired? Poor thing.

IMG_6108

While there I had a choc nut bar and some water to hold me over until lunch.

IMG_6106

Back home I eventually got some lunch. By now it was 1.30pm so I was rather hungry. Todays salad featured egg and those toasted pinenuts from last nights dinner (which were absolutely delicious) with a honey mustard dressing. Devoured this while watching Super Nanny.

IMG_6114

I’m not sure where the idea came from by an hour later I was wanting an ice cream. Yum! Please excuse my chipped nail polish :-).

IMG_6116

This afternoons snack was hummus and these very yummy veggie chips that I recently bought at our local organic shop. They are sooooo tasty.

IMG_6122

Don’t you just love the colour of these chips?

IMG_6125

Amy had drama at 5pm and while at the shops I picked up a skim iced chocolate from Gloria Jeans. I shared with Christy, but I had most of it :-).

IMG_0516

Tonights dinner was an easy one as we don’t get home till around 6.15pm. We had vegetable slice (from the freezer), some baby potatoes and corn. Simple and delicious.

IMG_6127

Later we had some of the new apple pie slice from Bakers Delight – shared between 3 :-). I forgot to take a photo but it was a bread base with apple pie filling on top. Quiet nice and I’m a sure it was a lot better than the real thing.

Tuesday that feels like Monday

I have to keep reminding myself that it is indeed Tuesday, not Monday. The girls went back to school today and I cleaned house – both of which normally happens on Monday.

I started the day by taking the dogs for a walk by the lake. It was still warm this morning, despite a bit of fog.

When I came home I had a glass of water and got the kettle boiling for my first cup of tea – which I enjoyed with some cruskits and spreadable cheese.

IMG_6053

One hour later the girls were all ready for school and I got breakfast started. I’d been wanting to have boiled egg so I could use the new egg cups I bought  – aren’t they just the cutest?

IMG_6055.

You’ll notice my eggs aren’t always the cleanest – that’s because we have our own chickens and they don’t tend to clean their feet when they get muddy 🙂

IMG_6057

Once the girls left for school I got on with cleaning the house – another workout in itself. Mid-morning I had a break and enjoyed a green smoothie. In addition to my normal recipe I added 1/2 cucumber (thanks for the idea Jane!). Do you spy my fellow smoothie lover? He always hope I will leave some for him….and usually I do.

IMG_6066

Lunch today with a salad with falafel and hummus. Delicious!!

IMG_6083

An hour later I enjoyed a cup of tea and 1/2 turish delight bar. I really could have done without the bar but once I start I had to finish :-(.

IMG_6085

When the girls got home from school at 3.30pm we had some afternoon tea which we took and ate in the pavillion. I had some dip, carrots, crackers and strawberries.

IMG_6087

Dinner tonight was a new recipe from an old cookbook – Vegetarian Kids – Spaghetti with Roasted Butternut Pumpkin. Twas rather yummy. Amy was disspointed that I used angel hair pasta instead of spaghetti. But it was so much easier to eat :-). It was supposed to be served with pine-nuts, which I had roasted, but forgot about until I was cleaning up :-(. Oh,well, they should be nice on tomorrows salad :-).

IMG_6088

A couple hours later I feeling a little hungry again so had a piece of fruit loaf and a cup of tea.
